Chapter 650: A Strange Death
“But the Yun Tao from before—he went door to door warning everyone not to open up. That’s compassionate too.”
Liu Shasha didn’t agree with Zhao Ru’s reasoning. Why did saving children count as compassion while warning people didn’t? For all they knew, the Yun Tao now carrying those kids might actually be Chen Chaofa in disguise, using the children to make himself look harmless.
“That woman’s expression looks wrong again.”
An Ran sat at the edge of the bed, closed her eyes, and cut off her normal vision. Only by doing that could the picture in her mind become clearer. When Zhao Ru and Liu Shasha heard her say this, they both grew nervous and crowded closer.
An Ran shook her head, her expression tightening. “It looks… twisted. Perverted.”
In her mind’s eye, the blood-soaked woman wore a disturbingly wicked expression. She stared fixedly at the rising elevator numbers, still clutching her knife, head tilted unnaturally. It was clear—she wasn’t planning to let whoever came out of that elevator live.
But inside that elevator were Yun Tao and the children he had just rescued from the chaos.
“She’s evil! She’s going to kill Yun Tao and those kids!”
Liu Shasha couldn’t wait for An Ran to finish her description. She ran back to the door, peered through the peephole, and sure enough—the woman’s face outside was terrifyingly warped, her eyes locked on the elevator as Yun Tao and the children stepped out. She didn’t move, but her intent to kill was unmistakable.
“An Ran, An Ran, we can’t just sit here! That woman’s going to kill them—we have to stop her!”
An Ran didn’t answer. Instead, she shot Zhao Ru a look.
Zhao Ru immediately stepped forward, grabbed Liu Shasha by the arm, and pulled her away from the door.
“I just told you not to act like Tang Siluo, and here you are doing exactly the same thing! If An Ran isn’t moving, why are you panicking?”
Whatever anyone said, An Ran had known Yun Tao the longest. If anyone cared about him the most, it was her—and she also understood him best.
“If that’s really Yun Tao out there, that woman won’t be able to beat him.”
An Ran rose from the bed and stood in the middle of the room. She shook her hand, letting a small green leaf fall to the floor beside Doll’s crib.
The situation outside was becoming even more complicated.
As Yun Tao led the children out of the elevator, the woman covered in blood began to convulse. Then, without warning, she collapsed to the ground.
Foam spilled from her mouth. She died—just like that—without reason or warning.
An Ran’s face suddenly changed. “Someone’s setting a fire,” she said sharply. “Someone knows these plants are under my control.”
Who could it be?
By now, the chaos in the lobby had nearly ended. Hours had passed; those who could flee had fled, and those ruthless enough to carve their way through the bloodbath had already risen to the top. Yet no one knew where Chen Chaofa was hiding.
The fire, however, had started from the top floor and was spreading downward.
There was a fire-type ability user up there, but by the time An Ran noticed, the blaze was already fierce. She couldn’t tell who had started it—only that the flames were now devouring everything.
Many people were forced out of their rooms by the fire, fleeing downward. Among them, An Ran saw the Yun Tao who had been knocking on doors earlier.
The emergency stairwell was completely covered in her plants, and as Yun Tao entered it along with others, he automatically entered her range of perception again.
So this Yun Tao hadn’t vanished after all—he’d simply stepped into a blind spot outside An Ran’s field of control.
