Chapter 637: You Shall Not Die Well
As more and more people came down to the first floor to get food, the lobby grew lively once again. Those who came down at first were careful and timid, but once they stepped inside, they felt as if they were in paradise. No one saw that strange woman, girl, or little girl again.
Jingxuan and the first group gradually forgot the eerie scene they had witnessed.
Time passed in joy, and people began to grow complacent. Some carried food as they chased and joked with each other in the lobby, roughhousing and preparing to celebrate again…
Suddenly, the elevator doors burst open. A man covered in blood stumbled out and crashed into the crowd.
Amid the uproar, he screamed: “Chen Chaofa! Chen Chaofa! You shall not die well!!!”
Then his body convulsed, and he collapsed to the floor—dead in the middle of the crowd.
Jingxuan and the others, who had been eating and dancing, turned their heads. Their gazes cut through the crowd and landed on the elevator, its doors still open.
The elevator, once gleaming with golden metal panels and an air of luxury, was now smeared with bloody handprints. A large pool of crimson spread across the marble floor—like a ringing warning bell hanging over everyone’s head.
Inside the elegant teahouse, An Ran held the sleepy Doll and glanced at Little Mint. She frowned and muttered, “Chen Chaofa has started killing people… but I still don’t know what he looks like.”
Little Mint sat silently like a puppet. She had no reaction, no interest in Chen Chaofa or his victims. If An Ran told her to kill someone, she might react—but otherwise, she didn’t care.
An Ran felt bored. She thought about calling Heng Heng over to keep Little Mint company—maybe Little Mint would talk more. But then she remembered that Heng Heng was currently following Yun Tao to help, so she dropped the idea.
Some time later…
The bloody golden elevator kept opening and closing. Several more people stepped out. None of them were Chen Chaofa.
Panic broke out, and people whispered anxiously among themselves.
From inside the teahouse, An Ran overheard someone say the dead man was Captain X—the very same captain who had volunteered to send troops to intercept Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan in the monitoring room, only to run away the moment he stepped outside.
Later, a brave soul went to check the captain’s floor. Everyone else in the other rooms was fine… but the captain’s room was a bloodbath. His wife and children, who shared the room with him, were all brutally murdered. Not a single survivor.
An Ran frowned. Her plants covered every corridor of the hotel. Aside from a few corners and rooms she had not entered, every inch of the building was within her control. Yet an entire room had been slaughtered—and she hadn’t noticed anything…
Had she truly missed it? Or was Chen Chaofa hiding too well?
This Hotel was enormous, full of people and countless rooms. It was inevitable that some areas slipped past her perception.
The teahouse, lit by warm palace lanterns, was quiet and divided by screens. An Ran clenched her fist, exhausted, and tapped her forehead.
All her people had gone to help Fatty build new housing. She had even pushed Zhan Lian away.
Now, only she, Doll, and Little Mint remained.
They were truly short-handed.
