Chapter 629: Warfare Resource Library
So Chen Chaofa was the one Kinmen Base had sent to facilitate the merger. He’d been at Yaoyang Base for months but hadn’t actually done anything. Lei Jiang had been using Chen Chaofa’s name to expand his own influence.
Now Wu Simiao thought Chen Chaofa didn’t have to do anything—his real purpose in coming to Yaoyang Base was simply to “relax.”
Wu Simiao found Chen Chaofa strange and depraved. He must have been odd even before the apocalypse; otherwise, why would he come just to relax?
Wu Simiao groaned inwardly. How had Yaoyang Base been so unlucky to attract someone like Chen Chaofa?
When Yang Ziyi questioned him, Wu Simiao guessed that Kinmen Base saw Yaoyang’s resources and feng shui as a good place for Chen Chaofa to rest. He didn’t dare tell the truth, so he made up an excuse.
Unexpectedly, Yang Ziyi shook his head, lowered his face, and blew a puff of cigarette smoke into Wu Simiao’s face. He asked, “Time’s short. I’ll ask you this one last time: where is your father’s war reserve warehouse?”
“What war reserve warehouse?” Wu Simiao asked, confused, looking at Yang Ziyi with a blank expression.
A war reserve warehouse? He had never heard of such a thing.
Yang Ziyi’s face darkened. He produced a knife and slashed it across the space between Wu Simiao’s eyes, his voice full of menace:
“I told you—time is tight. Where is it? We agreed to merge with your father’s small base because of his war reserve resources. Where is it?!”
Before he could finish, a soldier at the doorway rushed into the darkened monitoring room and hissed, “Director Yang, we have to go. Those two downstairs are coming up.”
There was no stopping them. Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan were too fast. No matter how many men they mobilized, they couldn’t hold them. They have to leave—right now!
Yang Ziyi sheathed the knife, then slashed at Wu Simiao’s throat. He stood, wiped the blood from the blade on his uniform, and without another glance at Wu Simiao, led the two soldiers toward another exit.
Chen Chaofa had appeared unhinged, it wasn’t an exaggeration to call him mad. After he’d escaped Yang Ziyi’s grasp, he even managed to cut the power to the surveillance room.
Chen Chaofa was gone, and Yang Ziyi’s movements in the huge hotel were deftly concealed. If he hid, he could always find Chen Chaofa and take him away.
By the time Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan burst in, the two soldiers with Yang Ziyi had vanished. The dark monitoring room reeked of blood.
Zhan Lian produced a flashlight, swept its beam around the room, tilted his head, and signaled Luo Feifan to follow. The two entered.
“There’s still someone alive,” Zhan Lian said.
Zhan Lian crouched beside Wu Simiao, reached out, and checked the breath under his nose. He lifted his head and had just spoken to Luo Feifan when the supposedly dead Wu Simiao suddenly sat up from the floor with an “Ow!”
Zhan Lian immediately drew a blade and brought it up along his arm. His arm pressed the blade right at Wu Simiao’s neck. With just a little force, Wu Simiao would have his throat slit a second time.
