Chapter 616: The Crowd Rises
Chapter 616: The Crowd Rises
“Yes — no rush.” An Ran drew a breath and found a chair on the balcony.
An Ran took a deep breath, found a chair on the balcony, sat down, and took Doll from Little Mint to play with.
Her yard was full of people on all sides, noisy and chaotic; the children kept crying, and An Ran was eager to send some people away.
Fewer unstable factors meant fewer problems.
Fatty obeyed at once, took the map, went downstairs, and shouted as he waved it: “You can leave now, you can leave—those who want to go, follow me. I’ll take you out. The elderly, the weak, the sick, and the pregnant stay here with An Ran!”
“Why should the elderly and the weak have to stay when we should be the ones staying?”
“Is this a trick?”
“We’re not leaving. Wherever you go, we go!”
Those who had earlier rushed for the tunnels paused when they saw Fatty holding the map and shouting that he could take them out. They seemed to realize the explosions outside might be worse than staying inside the ice.
From the second floor, An Ran suddenly rose, braced her hands on the railing, and shouted with barely contained anger, “You won’t leave? Then get out there and kill the snow wolves! You healthy people — what are you doing living off others? Get out!”
“Get out! Get out!”
“You’re all so strong you could tear a tunnel open with your hands—how can you not kill a wolf?”
“Shame on you! You want our protection? How dare you!”
Once An Ran spoke, all the “burdens” erupted in fury. They pointed at the able-bodied men and cursed, demanding those men be driven out to fight the wolves.
To be honest, these wolves weren’t that hard to kill. For people who’d seen metal type-zombie or water type-zombie situations in the south, these snow wolves were nothing—several strength-ability users swarming one could tear it apart.
So why were they crowding here? Didn’t they know An Ran wouldn’t protect shirkers? Didn’t they know she was furious?
The crowd’s anger flared, and they began shouting without restraint, insulting the able-bodied men until those men’s faces flushed crimson—some even wanted to break through the soldiers’ cordon and drag the insulting old and weak people out to beat them.
Just as someone made a move, a white tail dropped from above and hung in front of the soldiers like a curtain, separating the able-bodied men from the “burdens.”
“Get out! If you don’t, I’ll kill you!” An Ran’s voice carried from the balcony.
Fatty lazily tapped the ice tunnel and pointed to the tunnel behind him, saying to the driven men: “Hurry up and leave. Who knows—another bomb might fall. We don’t want to have to deal with bombs and wolves at the same time while also having to protect you!”
“Brother Fatty.” Among the able-bodied, Liu Zhi and her family stepped forward first. “Tell us which tunnels have wolves and which tunnels have more of them. I know you know. We’ll go kill the wolves.”
Liu Zhi shoved several elderly relatives and children toward the cordon. The youngest child was scooped up by Liu Shasha, who had come forward and cradled the little one.
“All of us from the Liu family will go to fight. Those of us who have not awakened abilities will stay behind. Brother Fatty, watch over the old and the young for us!”
