Chapter 615: Pointing the Way
Chapter 615: Pointing the Way
This was a disaster both natural and man-made. Mutated snow wolves roamed the ice while artillery shells fell from the sky.
To the base leaders, the priority was stopping the wolf attacks; to the civilian survivors—scattered like ants—the bombardment and the beasts were equally deadly.
“Ask the higher-ups,” Luo Feifan said, pointing upward.
They had no plan. With the base’s leadership treating their lives as disposable and dropping bombs without care, there was nothing they could do but react.
After replying to Zhang Boxun, Luo Feifan rushed off, shoving aside the men blocking the tunnel entrance and charging into the passage leading to the exit. There, he joined Zhan Lian in fighting the wolves, inside and out.
Zhang Boxun stood still for a moment, glancing toward the direction Luo Feifan had gone. The sound of howling wolves and explosions filled his ears; the ground beneath his feet trembled.
Lowering his head, he quietly told Liu Shasha a few words, then followed Luo Feifan into the tunnel to fight.
Tang Siluo was still screaming Zhang Boxun’s name hysterically. Liu Shasha looked back at her once. Though just as worried about him, she didn’t lose her composure. Instead, she went over to Liang Ziyu and Zhao Ru to help them bandage the wounded.
Cries of pain filled the air. Though everyone was terrified of being turned into “fertilizer,” and none dared to scream loudly, the quiet moans that rippled through the crowd merged into a vast, low wailing sound.
Upstairs, behind An Ran stood Little Mint holding the baby tightly. The baby had calmed down—after the initial fear, she had already adapted, remarkably quickly, to the chaos of this apocalyptic world.
Then Yuntao and Fatty ran up as well.
Before either could speak, An Ran pointed at the able-bodied survivors on the outer edge and said coldly, “Those people can’t be controlled. Getting them to help fight the wolves is impossible. Once the exit is cleared, let them go. Do you expect me to protect them? Disgusting. I’ll eat anyone who refuses to leave.”
Yun Tao set down a table, spread out his hand-drawn map behind An Ran, and shone a flashlight on it. “Many tunnels are blocked. Show me a route.”
Not all tunnels leading to An Ran’s villa had been built wide, but because Fatty had influence, every household in his group had a path into her house. There was a direct tunnel from An Ran’s house to the main exit.
Earlier, several earth-type -ability users—acting without orders—had sealed both large and small passages. Later, desperate survivors who tried to flee found exits clogged with snow wolves and smashed the ice in panic, blocking routes further.
An Ran handed Doll to Little Mint, took a pen, Closing her eyes for a moment, she visualized the tunnels and then drew a complex route. This one hadn’t been sealed and completely avoided the areas filled with wolves—safe, at least for now.
Fatty watched and clicked his tongue, then gave An Ran a thumbs-up. “Goddess, if we follow this, won’t we get out faster?”
“Let those who want to leave go first. We’ll move once it’s safe,” Yun Tao said. He folded the map, handed it to Fatty, and murmured, “They want to leave anyway. We’re not in a hurry. The bombing outside is too fierce; if we run recklessly, we’ll just end up as cannon fodder.”
