Chapter 602: I’ll Wait Right Here at the Door
Zhao Ru glanced at An Ran, who was about to continue skating, then shot Tang Siluo a cold look. “When you’ve figured things out, then come apologize. Right now, forget it!”
If anyone deserved an apology for careless words, it wasn’t An Ran—it was Zhao Qianru who deserved it for what Tang Siluo had said back then!
With that, Zhao Ru carried Doll inside.
An Ran skated a lap along the courtyard wall, then came back around.
Seeing Tang Siluo still standing in the same spot, she asked curiously, “You’re still here? Planning to stand at my gate like an ice sculpture?”
“No, An Ran, I just wanted to ask…” Tang Siluo bit her lip, hesitant, but finally gathered the courage to say, “Could you let Zhang Boxun… meet me, just once?”
“His business isn’t mine to manage.” An Ran arched her brow and continued skating forward, tossing back casually, “He’s still with Liu Shasha. He hasn’t come back yet.”
“Liu Shasha…” Tang Siluo’s face instantly went pale. Wasn’t Liu Shasha the girl Zhang Boxun had been holding in his arms on the bridge? Clenching her teeth, she looked at An Ran’s retreating figure. Whether An Ran disliked her or not, she declared firmly, “Then I’ll wait for him. I’ll wait right here at the door.”
“Suit yourself.” An Ran skated off without even turning her head, raising one hand high in a dismissive wave.
She truly didn’t care what became of Tang Siluo. With so many dead in the world already, what did it matter if one or two more froze to death at her doorstep?
By the time An Ran had worked up a full sweat and was finally satisfied with her skating progress, she returned to the villa, drenched and panting.
Little Mint hurried over, holding out a stack of towels, then pointed toward An Ran’s upstairs bedroom.
“Mint, what are you pointing up there for?” An Ran draped the towel over her head and looked at the girl’s tightly pressed lips.
Little Mint hadn’t spoken for days, so An Ran deliberately pretended not to understand the gesture, coaxing her to talk.
“Bath,” Little Mint finally forced out two syllables.
“It’s too cold. I’ll skip it!” An Ran flopped onto the sofa, still sweating, even deliberately unzipping her down jacket.
Little Mint jumped in place in agitation, until at last she couldn’t hold back and blurted out a few more words: “Hot water—I just boiled it.”
“Hot water, huh? Fine, I’ll go wash up. Where’s Doll?”
“Upstairs, asleep.”
“Asleep? I’ll go take a look!”
An Ran picked up a towel and started upstairs.
Little Mint trailed after her, unable to resist reminding, “Bath!”
“Alright, alright, I remember. Mint, when did you become such a little housekeeper?” An Ran laughed, agreeing lightly, and went straight up.
She pushed open her bedroom door and found Doll sleeping soundly in her little crib, bundled in a striped cotton sleeping sack.
Zhao Ru, ever thoughtful, had even clipped a pretty bow-shaped hairpin into Doll’s hair, instantly transforming her from a chubby dumpling into an adorable little cutie.
“What are you looking at?” Zhan Lian came in from outside, carrying a lit candle. He saw An Ran bent over the crib, so focused on watching Doll that she hadn’t even noticed him enter.
Straightening up, An Ran whispered to him, “Girls need to be dressed up a little. See? Just a bit of decoration and she’s so much cuter.”
“My daughter was always cute!” Unhappy with her criticism, Zhan Lian wrapped an arm around An Ran’s waist.
She laughed and struggled, but with one spin he swept her up, and together they disappeared into the bathroom.
