Chapter 557: A Collaboration
Chapter 557: A Collaboration
What’s that saying? The people west of the river survived, while those east of the river nearly froze to death. Truly, times had changed.
Zhao Ru, sitting beside An Ran, cast a lazy glance at the gossiping women and said to her: “Do you want to go take a look? Brother Fatty won’t just sit by. People are dying out there.”
“Our Brother Fatty is the kindest of people,” a woman immediately cut in, clearly trying to flatter him.
As soon as she spoke, the others joined in, chattering nonstop about how good Brother Fatty was, how generous he was, and how he had saved them whenever they were in trouble.
But hadn’t they all nearly died back then too? Why were they now gloating over the misfortune of others? Zhao Ru’s casual remark wasn’t really a compliment—it was sarcasm aimed squarely at those women.
Of course, they were too busy flattering Fatty to reflect on what she meant.
An Ran pressed her lips together and smiled at Zhao Ru, then said meaningfully: “You’re barely able to protect yourself, can’t you stop being so cynical?”
Wasn’t Zhao Ru herself almost frozen into an ice sculpture? why bother worrying about whether those women were gloating?
Suddenly, Fatty poked An Ran’s shoulder. He leaned in and whispered, “Goddess, I have something to tell you. Can you make some trees for firewood?”
“Don’t you have wood-type ability-users?”
“How many do you think I have? We’ve got over six hundred people to feed and keep warm. The trees in this community will be chopped down soon, and who knows when the heavy snow will stop. We’re short on crystal cores, so we don’t have time to grow more. Besides, all those wood-types combined can’t compare to you alone.”
Fatty’s flattery was desperate, almost shameless.
An Ran’s bright eyes rolled, and she smiled. “So, you want me to use my plants? Then hand over crystal cores. Otherwise, what if I run out of energy?”
One thing was one thing—An Ran never worked for free.
“Deal! I’ll give you the crystal cores!”
Cheerful as ever, Fatty quickly sealed the agreement.
Since she was waiting for Zhan Lian’s wind turbines, An Ran didn’t treat the matter too seriously. The weather was too cold, and the mutant plants were sluggish, hibernating under the frozen soil no matter how much energy she offered them. It would be a waste of wood-type crystal cores.
But ordinary plants were another matter. They bent completely to An Ran’s will. Regardless of the weather, she could command them to grow like puppets, devoid of any independent will.
The next morning, everyone in the villa was still asleep. The sky outside was a gray gloom, without a trace of sunlight.
Suddenly, the door was pounded loudly. Fatty had indeed arrived with several men to collect An Ran’s plants.
Bundled in a thick down jacket, An Ran yawned and shivered from the cold as she led Fatty and the others upstairs to the small glass garden on the second floor.
“What… is that?”
Fatty and his men froze behind her, staring at the enormous white tails sprawled across several flowerpots. Their legs trembled. They’d heard rumors about An Ran’s strange plant.
But this?
Oh heavens—why did it look like a giant octopus?
