Chapter 529: Falling in Love
Chapter 529: Falling in Love
“Feifan and I scout ahead and check the nearby area. We didn't find anything big. A few survivor groups have been clearing mutant creatures around here, so moving forward for a while should be relatively safe.”
“Other survivors? Where are they?” An Ran frowns at the mention of survivor groups. In her mind, survivor teams mean nothing but trouble.
“They went north. With the constant rain and the newly evolved water zombies, they got scared. I’d guess they all left together a few days ago.” Zhan Lian pauses beside the bulletproof car. He loosens his grip on An Ran’s shoulders, slides down her arm, and takes her hand, whispering, “We suspect Lei Jiang and Tang Siluo may have followed those groups north as well. Let’s hurry and try to catch them on the Beijing-Tibet Highway, then deal with Lei Jiang.”
“Okay. Let’s rest tonight and leave tomorrow. If we wait too long, the snow will block the road and make travel difficult.” An Ran nods in full agreement.
Now, Zhan Lian shares everything with her, big or small. Unlike before, when they are husband and wife and An Ran always has to compromise, they can now discuss matters openly and navigate the apocalypse side by side.
Zhan Lian smiles and gently tugs her hand. No words are needed; the atmosphere is tender and intimate, almost like a romantic relationship. For some reason, both of them feel a faint shyness.
Not far away, Wang Wei stands by a three-car freight train, strumming a guitar he has found, lost in the world of music. Xu Li’er approaches quietly and stands beside him.
Wang Wei plucks a few strings but doesn’t look at her, his expression absorbed in the melody.
“Ah Wei… I’m sorry. Is it too late for me to say this?” Xu Li’er’s eyes glisten with tears. Two streams fall as she speaks.
Wang Wei remains silent, strumming as if he can’t hear her at all, lost in his own world.
Originally, Xu Li’er comes sincerely to apologize, hoping to use Wang Wei’s influence to rejoin An Ran’s team. But seeing his indifference, she grows anxious. She reaches out, grabs the hand that strums the strings, and cries:
“Ah Wei, don’t be like this. I know you’re angry. You can hit me or scold me, but please don’t ignore me. Ah Wei… please, just say something~~”
Wang Wei raises his hand, gently pushing hers away. He looks at her calmly, as if she were a stranger.
“Miss Xu, what happened between us is over. Don’t dwell on it. I haven’t. I see you and Fatty are doing well now. I wish you happiness.”
