Chapter 517: He Treats Me Very Well
Chapter 517: He Treats Me Very Well
After all, with Tang Siluo’s personality, even if Luo Feifan took her in, she’d probably still end up living rough, with no guarantee of her next meal. On a rainy day like this, she’d be hiding in a broken-down temple, drinking the wind for sustenance.
It would be better for her to stay with Lei Jiang. At least he could build her a stone house. And when Lei Jiang grew stronger in the future, he could pull out a large force at his command — not bad at all.
Of course, this was on the condition that Tang Siluo was smart enough to make good use of the resources her father had left her, to keep Lei Jiang’s heart in check, and to stop him from being too presumptuous with her.
It was the end of the world; everyone had their own fate to follow. No one could control another person’s life.
Still, Axe’s death couldn’t simply be ignored. Even if Luo Feifan didn’t go after Tang Siluo, Zhang Boxun would still have to find a way to avenge Axe.
And with the worsening weather, if Zhan Lian and his men couldn’t travel far, neither could Lei Jiang and his group. Their paths would inevitably cross on the journey north.
The next morning, the rain mixed with snow pellets, and the road began to freeze. Deciding it was no longer safe to travel, everyone stopped at a small temple, waiting for the weather to clear before moving on.
A little farther up the road, Lei Jiang pushed his car forward. He wasn’t worried about the icy road—he could just smooth it over. Several other vehicles followed behind, carrying water- and wood-type ability users. These were all that remained of his subordinates after being hunted by Zhang Boxun.
Realizing he had shaken off Zhang Boxun’s pursuit, Lei Jiang decided to take his time. He pulled over by the roadside and turned to the pale-faced Tang Siluo sitting beside him.
“The rain is heavy and the roads are dangerous. We might get caught again. Let’s head into the next town and hide for a while. Calm yourself down.”
Tang Siluo tilted her head, a few loose strands of hair falling by her ear. She had long since changed out of her military uniform into casual clothes. It was as if she hadn’t heard what Lei Jiang had said.
Later, as Lei Jiang restarted the engine and drove toward the next town, Tang Siluo suddenly spoke. “Actually, he’s been very good to me.”
The “he” was clearly Zhang Boxun. She hadn’t really intended to kill him. During the chaos, Zhang Boxun had grabbed her, put her in his car, and Lei Jiang had gone into hiding. It was then that Axe was shot dead by Lei Jiang.
Tang Siluo didn’t want to go with Zhang Boxun. She had known even before leaving Xiangcheng that Lei Jiang was lying—Brother Feifan wasn’t waiting for her ahead. She didn’t want to go back with Zhang Boxun; she just wanted her Brother Feifan to come and find her.
But Zhang Boxun hadn’t been treating her well at that moment. They had fought in the car, mostly because she was angry and kept trying to get out. When Zhang Boxun tried to stop her, she stabbed him near the heart.
“He’ll be fine,” Lei Jiang said, impatience flickering in his eyes. Still, he reached out and patted Tang Siluo’s head. “Zhang Boxun is a metal-type ability user — he’ll be fine.”
It was only a stab wound above the heart. As a metal-type ability user, Zhang Boxun could stop his own bleeding if he wished. He had fainted—perhaps not because of the wound itself, but because he was disappointed in Tang Siluo. He might have feared that if he stayed conscious, he would keep chasing after her.
From Lei Jiang’s perspective, as long as Zhang Boxun was alive, he was still a threat. But judging by Tang Siluo’s words, she seemed to hold some lingering feelings for him.
