Chapter 512: Can’t Quite Figure It Out
"Do you think I’m stupid?" An Ran raised an eyebrow.
She’d only come to watch the commotion, and now Fatty was trying to dump Xu Li’er on her.
Without another word, she turned to leave.
Fatty grew anxious and chased after her, pressing his palms together in a pleading gesture.
"Lady, please, look at the situation. There’s a pack of giant monsters behind us, and I’ve got to fix the road. Xu Li’er’s nothing but trouble. I can’t keep her in my team."
"I can’t take her either."
Unwilling to get involved, An Ran jogged ahead with Doll. Just then, she spotted Zhan Lian and hurried over.
Fatty saw this, realized who she was with, and thought better of pestering her.
Xu Li’er — now dressed but disheveled — approached Fatty with a pitiful look, reaching for his hand.
He brushed her off irritably. "Behave yourself. Go back, and don’t provoke those pregnant women again. These days, you could end up with two corpses if you’re not careful. Stop causing trouble!"
Then he turned away, focusing on the road repairs, leaving Xu Li’er stunned and the women behind smirking.
Fatty’s meaning was clear: even though Xu Li’er had clashed with these women and they’d gone as far as to strip her, he wasn’t going to intervene. In his eyes, it wasn’t a big deal.
But Xu Li’er was baffled. She’d slept with him last night. Shouldn’t he be defending her today? She thought all men would cherish and protect a woman who’d shared a bed with them, like Wang Wei did.
She was a water-ability user—someone every team wanted.
Still seething, she rejoined the group.
By the time the road was fixed, Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan had already scouted toward the airport, brought back some less important supplies, and continued on.
On the way to Huang County, they found several bodies on the roadside — none belonging to Lei Jiang or Zhang Boxun.
Luo Feifan frowned, muttered something to Zhan Lian, and sped off alone.
Inside the bulletproof car, An Ran settled the sleeping Doll into a cot and buckled it in to keep it steady over bumps.
Zhan Lian had modified the car extensively during their escape — expanding the cabin, adding storage, and even a cushioned backseat wide enough for someone to sleep on. It was practically a small RV now.
Little Mint slept soundly in the back as An Ran climbed into the passenger seat, crossed her legs, and watched the taillights of the car ahead.
"Where’s Luo Feifan gone?" she asked.
