Chapter 509: Saving Seeds
Chapter 509: Saving Seeds
Mutant vines, lily stems—these plants were bizarre and unpredictable after the apocalypse, yet they still carried traces of their old selves.
Whenever An Ran left a mutant plant alive, it was like leaving behind seeds.
She couldn’t take the giant mutated vines with her, so she had Little Mint use her ability to remotely collect some small flower bulbs from underground, along with some vine segments. These vine segments were cut into lengths and bundled together in the trunk as seed stock.
She had pots ready, filled with soil, planting both the bulbs and the fat thorn ball.
Freed from rolling along with An Ran, the fat thorn ball was thrilled. As a plant, it preferred staying rooted. Now that it had its pot, its grudge against her vanished.
Little Mint also dug up many crystal cores from underground—leftovers from mutant animals consumed by plants—but only she could do this safely, avoiding the flower balls’ roots.
At the rear of the convoy, Wang Wei, leaning on a branch as a makeshift crutch, trailed after Liang Ziyu, repeatedly insisting he wanted to help.
Liang Ziyu, clearly annoyed, turned his head, stroking his goatee, and finally said: “There’s really nothing to help with here—just gathering basic supplies. But from the looks of it, Lei Jiang’s group already took most of the good stuff. Why don’t you rest for now? Once they fill that hole up ahead, we can move on.”
Wang Wei shook his head. “There are still things Lei Jiang didn’t want. I can collect those. Don’t look at my limp—I can still work.”
The two circled a pickup and ran into An Ran, who was holding Doll.
Liang Ziyu said with a half-smile: “An Ran, see if you have something for Captain Wang to do. I’ve really got nothing for him.”
Wang Wei ducked his head, ashamed. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to cause trouble. I just want to help. I’m fine now—strong enough to gather supplies or whatever you need.”
He was trying to make amends for once listening to Xu Li’er and taking three of Liang Ziyu’s men away.
Having been through life and death, and then abandoned by Xu Li’er—the woman who had risked her life to save him—Wang Wei had gained some clarity. He knew he’d been wrong. Liang Ziyu had been furious when he took those men, but had still saved his life later.
Wang Wei didn’t expect forgiveness. He just wanted to do what he could to ease his conscience.
