Chapter 499: They’re Gone
Chapter 499: They’re Gone
"No, Little Mint’s here." She flushes, turns, and pushes him away. "Go find someone else to play with."
It’s not that she doesn’t want to respond to Zhan Lian—it’s just that he’s always too loud. Embarrassingly loud. Not only does he make a lot of noise, he likes it when she makes noise… so forget it. Wrong place, wrong time.
"Find who? I’m not going anywhere."
He takes her hand, pulling her gently back. An Ran ignores him and walks straight to the bedroom.
Zhan Lian doesn’t push. He waits until she reaches the door, then walks over, scoops her up by the waist, and spins her around.
An Ran giggles, hands clutching his neck as the ceiling spins.
He eventually sets her down, and they go into the bedroom together, lying beside the sleeping Zhan Anxin and chatting.
The neighborhood, once so desolate, now bustles with life. Bonfires blaze in the open areas as everyone celebrates. They sing and dance, as if with the carnivorous flower gone, life will no longer bring them suffering.
A few agricultural experts sit around one fire, discussing planting strategies. The wood- and water-type ability users are all smiles. Fatty gathers several earth-types to modify the compound’s soil, transforming rocky ground into fertile farmland.
Luo Feifan and Yun Tao lead a group to haul supplies from the supermarket. Thanks to the carnivorous flower guarding the place, the store’s inventory remains untouched. And not just that one—nearby markets are also intact.
That single large supermarket can feed their 500-strong group for months—more, if they tap the others.
Life seems to be improving. Even the cold wind can’t dampen their spirits.
Zhang Boxun, however, paces the compound, a grim expression on his face as he barks orders.
"Go find them!"
Luo Feifan walks over, curious. "What’s wrong?"
"Tang Siluo is missing," Zhang Boxun says, now dressed casually, his brow furrowed. “Lei Jiang, and those who stayed behind earlier and refused to leave—they’re gone too.”
"They’re gone," Fatty adds as he dances near the fire. “Right after you left, Lei Jiang took everyone and ran. He even took all the wood and water-type ability users from the military with them.”
"What?!" Zhang Boxun strides forward, grabs Fatty by the collar, and growls, "Say that again!"
The look in his eyes is murderous, frightening Fatty into silence. The others nearby also purse their lips, unwilling to speak—as if the more danger they sense, the less they dare say, fearing they’ll be dragged into disaster.
“Zhang Boxun!” Luo Feifan steps in, grabbing the back of Zhang’s collar. “Let me talk to him.”
Then, hooking an arm around Fatty’s neck, he leads him aside and begins chatting with him in hushed tones.
