Chapter 494: You Can Kill Me
Chapter 494: You Can Kill Me
Zhan Lian is stunned for a moment, then tilts his head to look at Zhang Boxun. Suddenly, he smiles. “Don’t you have anyone to worry about?”
“Me?” Zhang Boxun’s handsome face is covered in blood, but he grins carefreely. “The people I worry about wouldn’t care whether I live or die.”
Before he even finishes speaking, Zhang Boxun dives into the tunnel. As he crawls forward, he says, “Zhan Lian, I really envy you. Your wife’s waiting outside—you’d better survive. This time, let me repay the debt I owe you two.”
He’s referring to the incident where he kidnapped An Ran to lure Zhan Lian into a rescue—a trap that ultimately led to Zhao Qianrong’s death, a life Zhang Boxun has never forgotten and always feels guilty for.
Outside the cave, Zhan Lian snorts as he helps steady Zhang Boxun’s escape hole. “You owe my wife an apology. Say it to her yourself—this doesn’t count.”
Zhang Boxun smiles from inside, pulls out a hoe, and begins furiously digging at the green mass ahead.
On the surface, an angry roar grows louder and louder, the entire ground trembling beneath it. The white roots in the underground parking lot multiply rapidly, thickening by the second.
The Yun Tao group, still wearing firefighter uniforms, desperately try to tear the roots out.
At first, the roots are thick and firm, but soon they tangle into soft, pale clusters like drifting waterweeds.
A fire burns at the basement entrance. The vines that previously hung safely in the air suddenly grow wild, forming something like a bridge across their heads.
Then Yun Tao shouts from the entrance, panic in his voice, “No! The underground parking lot is sealed off! The flower roots are growing too fast—they’ll suffocate in there!”
An Ran panics. That can’t be! After all their effort, fighting day and night, how could the roots block the way again? It doesn’t make sense.
You... come
A voice bursts into her mind—fury and wrath twisting together into something that isn’t quite words.
An Ran staggers, ignoring everything else. She takes two steps toward the supermarket entrance, then turns back and pushes Little Mint into the car.
“Watch Doll, Mint. I’m entrusting my whole world to you. Take good care of Doll.”
Then she slams the door and runs straight toward the supermarket.
Yun Tao catches up from behind and shouts, “An Ran, where are you going?!”
“Don’t stop me!”
Without looking back, An Ran runs across scattered tree roots toward the base of the giant fleshy flower. The bark of the roots beneath her feet is coated in thick red mucus, like a mix of blood and sap.
Behind her, Yun Tao chases frantically—only to be flung backward by a sudden vine strike.
An Ran stops under the enormous flower that blocks out the sky and yells, “I’m here! What do you want?! You’ve already killed so many—what more do you want?!”
The carnivorous flower quivers in fury, letting out a howl that is both rebellious and grief-stricken. Then one massive petal opens over her, preparing to crush her to death.
“Die!”
An Ran is furious now. She braces herself. The bridge-like vine above her head bends downward, blocking the falling petal. An Ran screams, “You can kill me, but let the two people next to your flower go!”
