Chapter 476: I Don’t Care Anyway
Zhao Ru comes out of the bedroom as well, but her attention is on different matters. She looks at the survivors and spots several pregnant women whose due dates are clearly near.
"I’ll go ask," Luo Feifan offers. He leaves the room and speaks with a few survivors before returning to report, "They heard that you’ve taken over now… and want to know what’s for dinner."
"What to eat? How would I know?" An Ran is startled by his words. These people really are trying to latch onto her like leeches. Annoyed, she snaps, "How did they eat before?"
"Uncle Tang never missed a single meal. But now that he’s gone, the supplies have been temporarily seized by Lei Jiang. He says things aren’t clear yet and might need to be redistributed."
"Then have Lei Jiang hand them over! Feed them the same way as before!"
An Ran takes a deep breath. She has a terrible impression of Lei Jiang. This community depends on his ability, and not only has he vanished, but now he’s withholding supplies? From the elderly, the weak, women and children?
Of course, she’s taking it back.
This isn’t about being a saint. The supplies don’t belong to her—but they sure as hell don’t belong to Lei Jiang either. If he dares withhold them, then she’s absolutely going after him.
Luo Feifan nods. He agrees that Lei Jiang’s actions are unjust. Tang Jianjun held these people dear—yet Lei Jiang barely waited before starting to mistreat them. It’s despicable.
Luo Feifan invites Zhan Lian to accompany him to the opposite building to demand the supplies from Lei Jiang. If necessary, they’re prepared to kill him to prevent future trouble.
Yun Tao remains behind. Looking at the survivors outside the window, he asks An Ran, "What are you going to do with these people?"
"Let Tang Siluo handle it!" An Ran tilts her head, making her stance very clear. "I can’t take care of them. If Tang Siluo won’t do it, let Zhang Boxun, who always wanted to save everyone, take over. I don’t care either way!"
Yun Tao nods in approval. He’s glad An Ran isn’t overextending herself. "You’re right. If we can figure out a way to kill that Mutant Flower, that’ll be the best explanation we can give to the survivors. The rest… we simply don’t have the capacity."
As they speak, a fat figure flashes by among the crowd outside. An Ran spots him. She tells Yun Tao and walks out the door, tracking his movement.
Fatty stands on a stone slab with two others, deep in discussion.
When he notices An Ran looking his way, he seems embarrassed. One of the men with him turns—an empty sleeve flaps in the cold wind.
That face looks familiar.
Isn’t he the third brother? The one whose arm An Ran severed?
An Ran stands still, sneers, and begins walking straight toward them.
Dead trees rustle in the breeze. The third brother, guilt written all over his face, shrinks back and runs off with the other man, leaving Fatty behind.
He also tries to escape.
An Ran bends down, picks up a stone, and hurls it at Fatty.
"Stop right there!" she shouts.
