Chapter 464: Let’s Talk About Business
Zhan Lian just laughs. His legs don’t hurt, so he doesn’t care how hard An Ran kicks him.
He stands up, watches her hurry back downstairs, and laughs even harder.
On the stairs, Luo Feifan greets her with a teasing expression.
An Ran lightly slaps him and pushes him aside, then jabs her fingers toward his eyes like claws.
Luo Feifan shrieks, “Aiya!” and runs upstairs to complain to Zhan Lian. “Hey! Your An Ran’s too much! I didn’t peek on purpose—you two should’ve picked a more private spot!”
Zhan Lian raises five fingers at Luo Feifan, pretending he’s going to smack him too.
Luo Feifan quickly shakes his head and laughs, then turns serious and addresses Yun Tao, who follows behind him. “Let’s talk business. What do we do next?”
Though things are safe for now, the world outside is changing rapidly. Any small creature left unchecked can grow into a major threat. They can’t afford to relax just because their immediate environment feels stable. They have to prepare for danger in times of peace.
Zhan Lian’s face turns serious. He nods. “We have to move. The question is—where?”
“Let’s head to the Star District,” Yun Tao says, pointing west through the large French windows. “We can take the Beijing-Hong Kong Expressway from there.”
“Perfect. Uncle Tang and the others are in the Star District too.”
Luo Feifan, listening nearby, agrees with Yun Tao’s plan. The Beijing-Hong Kong Expressway will take them north to Beijing. It’s a good opportunity to check in with Tang Jianjun along the way.
An Ran, standing on the stairs, hears their plan and has no objections.
Now that it’s already getting light out, she turns and goes downstairs to inform Zhao Ru and the others.
Zhao Ru is already awake, standing by the table where Wang Wei lies. She’s applying medicine to him. Suddenly, Wang Wei’s fingers twitch, and his tightly shut eyes crack open for a moment to glance at An Ran—then close again.
An Ran is startled. She looks at Zhao Ru, uncertainty in her expression.
Isn’t Wang Wei supposed to be dying?
Zhao Ru, holding a pair of tweezers and a cotton swab, shrugs. She doesn’t understand it either. Wang Wei is still inexplicably alive, even in this weak state.
If he isn’t dead, they can’t just abandon him. They’ll have to continue treating and caring for him.
It only proves how strong his will to survive is.
An Ran steps closer and says to Zhao Ru, “We’ll be leaving soon. It’s cold out—wear something warm.”
“Okay.” Zhao Ru nods and resumes applying medicine without asking where they’re going. She’ll simply follow An Ran.
A short while later, Zhan Lian and the others come downstairs. Doll wakes up and soaks a diaper. As An Ran changes and feeds Doll, the others quickly pack up and rush out to clear the surrounding mutant vines.
Though the area around the bridal shop is mostly safe, many vines still remain farther away. They seem to prefer daytime movement, likely due to sunlight.
An Ran can’t sit still either. After cleaning and feeding Doll, she dresses her in a clean diaper and finds the rabbit-shaped rocking car Zhan Lian brought from the truck—the same one Doll used in the northern Xiangcheng mall.
