Chapter 463: You Care About Me That Much?
The situation stabilizes, and everyone begins discussing taking turns to rest. Zhang Boxun and Axe are still locked outside, but they’re safe. Now, the bridal shop and the surrounding area are completely An Ran’s territory.
It’s late at night, and it’s rare for Doll to sleep through until morning. An Ran can’t bear to wake Little Mint and Hengheng, who are sleeping in the car, so she sits in the passenger seat, preparing to rest.
Everyone quietly finds a place to sleep. Zhan Lian goes up to the second floor to stand guard. After all the chaos, the night will soon pass.
An Ran leans slightly in the driver’s seat, only to suddenly feel an intense chill run through her body. Her eyes snap open as she looks around—something really is wrong. It’s so cold she’s almost shivering.
She reaches up and touches her forehead. No fever. Then why does it feel so cold?
After a moment’s thought, she realizes—the air around her really has turned cold.
It’s March or April in Xiangcheng. Before the apocalypse, this time of year marks the beginning of a long rainy season, often lasting a month or two. The current temperature is actually very typical for this season.
Quietly, An Ran gets out of the vehicle, fetches some autumn clothes and a few blankets from the truck compartment, and uses them to cover Doll, Little Mint, and Hengheng inside the car. She also grabs a men’s windbreaker and heads upstairs to find Zhan Lian.
On the second floor, the breeze is stronger and colder than the sealed-off ground floor. Zhan Lian is sitting on the sofa with his arms crossed, resting.
An Ran approaches and drapes the windbreaker over him. But the moment the fabric touches him, Zhan Lian’s eyes shoot open. He wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her onto his lap.
“Let go!” she snaps, slapping his arm. Her face is tinged with anger. “I came up here out of kindness to bring you clothes, and you were pretending to sleep?”
“Nope,” Zhan Lian grins shamelessly, tightening his grip on her. He tilts his chin, full of mischief, and whispers temptingly, “Hey, you care about me this much—then let me kiss you, hmm?”
“Rogue!” An Ran turns away, her face flushed. She inwardly curses herself—why did she come up to bring him clothes in the first place?
But turning her head only exposes her slender, pale neck. A faint fragrance lingers—one that Zhan Lian is very familiar with.
He leans in and bites her neck lightly, mumbling nonsense: “Not letting me kiss you, huh? Let’s see if I can sneak one in… I kissed you—tell me, does this mean you’ve fallen for me again? The way you’ve been looking at me lately—it’s definitely different.”
An Ran squirms in his lap, unable to hold back her laughter. She’s supposed to be mad, but Zhan Lian’s tickling makes it impossible.
“Who likes you again? Shameless! Let me go…”
Just then, on the second floor, Luo Feifan jumps up and covers his eyes as he catches sight of them.
“Oh my god, it’s getting hot in here! I didn’t see anything—I saw nothing!” He waves his hands frantically and backs up, only to step on Yun Tao behind him.
Yun Tao shouts, “Hey!”—a sound that rings out clearly in the quiet early morning.
Zhan Lian finally lets go of An Ran.
She quickly slides off his lap, face bright red, and gives him a fierce glare before raising her foot and kicking him hard in the shin.
“This is so embarrassing! All your fault!”
