Chapter 457: Wang Wei Is Dying
Chapter 457: Wang Wei Is Dying
Does An Ran truly not want to save those old, weak, women, and children Zhang Boxun speaks of? Deep down, she does. But anyone who acts recklessly without strength dies. In the apocalypse, power really is the root of everything.
As they discuss, Zhan Lian, Luo Feifan, and Yun Tao finalize their next strategy. The first step is to improve their strength and fight the mutant vines outside to the end.
They cannot allow themselves to remain trapped here.
Mutant vines wrap around the entire bridal shop. The building has two floors, both surrounded by full-length glass windows. While the first floor is sealed off, the vines grow wildly and begin climbing up the second-floor glass.
Zhan Lian constructs a metal wall around the shop. Then they head upstairs but intentionally leave the second-floor windows unsealed, allowing the vines to invade. Several men begin fighting the mutant vines there.
Zhan Lian, Luo Feifan, and Yun Tao are all trained soldiers. Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan come from a mysterious military branch, while Yun Tao has a background in the armed police. All three are skilled fighters. With their ability and combat abilities, they defend the second floor tightly.
Downstairs, only An Ran, Zhao Ru, Little Mint, Hengheng, Liang Ziyu, Wang Wei, and Xu Lier remain.
Xu Lier huddles fearfully in the corner, too scared to cause trouble.
Little Mint stands silently on the stairs between the two floors. No one knows what she’s staring at—her eyes are unfocused.
Hengheng sits at her feet, holding two packs of instant noodles—one for Little Mint, one for himself.
An Ran lays the car seat and baby carrier flat, makes a small nest, and lies beside Doll to sleep.
Just before dozing off, someone knocks on the window.
An Ran sits up and sees Zhao Ru outside. She rolls down the window and asks, “What is it?”
“Wang Wei is dying. He wants to see Xu Lier.”
There’s a sigh on Zhao Ru’s face as she casts a sideways glance at Xu Lier. In the dim light, An Ran follows her gaze to Xu Lier, still curled up in the corner.
Zhao Ru sneers. “Xu Lier doesn’t want to see him.”
“If she won’t, then don’t force her. Tell Wang Wei she’s dead. Let him go in peace.”
Seeing Xu Lier collapse under the emotional blow yet still refuse to face Wang Wei, An Ran feels deeply irritated. Wang Wei has risked his life for her, and Xu Lier won’t even look at him. How can such a woman exist?
Neither An Ran nor Zhao Ru can understand it.
Suddenly, a commotion erupts upstairs, as if some monster has been killed. Zhan Lian and the others cheer in excitement.
An Ran and Zhao Ru look at each other, fling open the car door, and rush for the stairs—but before they take two steps, the first-floor ground begins to tremble.
An Ran looks back. In the dim light, a section of the marble floor beside the SUV’s wheel lifts—and Doll is still asleep inside!
“Liang Ziyu!”
An Ran screams and sprints back. Liang Ziyu rushes over and steps onto the rising tile, stilling it. Just as everyone lets out a breath, another tile shoots into the air, and a vine bursts from below like the tongue of a beast.
