Chapter 446: What Kind of Carnivorous Plants
Chapter 446: What Kind of Carnivorous Plants
The two are clearly rattled, especially Xu Lier, who looks on the verge of a breakdown. Seeing An Ran in the car, she doesn’t react at all. Instead, she slams her hands on the back of Zhang Boxun’s seat and screams, “Go! Drive!”
Zhang Boxun silently steps on the accelerator. The car continues deeper into Xiangcheng.
Xu Lier shrieks again, “Turn back! Turn back! We can’t go in! So many people died—eaten by those weird plants!”
Wang Wei also yells, “We lost a ton of people! Carnivorous plants ate them all!”
“What carnivorous plants?” An Ran frowns, turning to look at them. When neither of them answers, she turns to Axe. “Explain it properly. What kind of plants?”
“I’m with the commander,” Axe begins, trying to stay calm while Xu Lier and Wang Wei panic. “We bring in a group of survivors—mostly the elderly, women, and children. When we first enter Xiangcheng, it seems safe.”
Axe continues, “The first wave of survivors even reports back saying everything is clear. The commander—Tang Jianjun—thinks the earlier team cleared out the zombies and Ability Users, so we keep moving forward. We plan to enter from the north, gather supplies from the central business district, then either head west and go north, or settle here in Xiangcheng.”
“Why?” An Ran asks.
“Because Xiangcheng seems like the safest place we’ve seen since the apocalypse,” Axe explains. “Not only safe, but full of untouched resources. Being a provincial capital and a railway hub, Xiangcheng had massive stores of goods before the world ended. Hardly any survivors looted it.”
That’s why they want to stay.
Tang Jianjun is confident. He believes he can rebuild a life for the weak and vulnerable. They choose a mid-to-high-end residential community on the edge of the Star District and enthusiastically settle the survivors there.
But soon, things turn strange.
People start disappearing.
Someone walks ahead, and the person behind suddenly screams—and vanishes. At first, Tang Jianjun thinks it’s a prank, or worse, malicious murder.
Then, overnight, blood-red flowers—shaped like lotuses—begin growing all around the residential complex.
Anyone who gets close is swallowed whole, leaving behind only bones.
Tang Jianjun tries to destroy the flowers, but it’s useless. Every flower they remove one day regrows the next—stronger than before.
