An Ran looks at him with reddened eyes and a cold face. Under the pressure of the gun, she opens the rear door and gets in. A tiny thorn ball rolls quietly into the car with her, clinging to the hem of her pants.
Zhang Boxun gets into the driver’s seat and shouts to the bearded man still fighting Yun Tao, “Axe, get in!”
Then he fires two shots at Yun Tao, forcing him to dodge. Axe quickly jumps in and takes the passenger seat. Zhang Boxun slams the gas pedal, and the car shoots forward.
They speed off toward the heart of Xiangcheng.
An Ran’s eyes are red as she looks out the window at Doll in Mint’s arms. Her child is nearly five months old—this is their first time apart. Will Zhan Lian know how to care for such a small baby?
“Miss An, don’t be sad.” Axe, the bearded man, turns around and speaks politely.
An Ran looks away, holding back tears. She is now a prisoner, separated from her daughter and son. No amount of kind words from her captors can ease the pain.
Axe glances at Zhang Boxun, then says guiltily, “We have no other choice. The chief and his men are trapped by a strange flower. We just need someone to rescue them.”
Zhang Boxun can come and go freely among those flowers. That’s how he survives and escapes to find help. Among all survivors, only Zhan Lian and his team have enough strength.
