Chapter 36: This Is a Magical World
Inside the blue light room, Anran curls up, completely unaware of the strange phenomena in the sky. Even if she notices, she wouldn't care much. In her dreams, she feels as though she is in an ice cellar, but the four bite marks on her shoulders and neck burn intensely. Soon, she feels an intense heat spreading through her body.
She turns over, lying flat on the cold floor, and feels itching and pain in the palms and backs of her hands, as though something inside them is about to burst.
Feeling uncomfortable, she places her palms on the floor and fumbles. By accident, she pinches an avocado pit. She squeezes it with force, and her body feels as though something is about to grow out of it. A thunder-like sensation brews in her mind, making her head feel heavy and as if she is about to die.
Suddenly, the thunder in her head explodes. With a "bang," her hearing is instantly lost. Anran’s body on the floor seems lifted by an invisible hand, her head tilts back, her eyes wide open with greenish pupils like spring buds after rain, which quickly turn back to black. As she regains some clarity, she begins gasping for air as if she is drowning.
A thin, bamboo-like thing pokes her wrist. In the dim blue light, she feels much better. She collapses back onto the cold, hard floor, dazed and tilting her head. She looks at her hand and sees that the avocado pit has sprouted!
The bamboo-like thing is growing from the tip of the avocado pit. In Anran’s itchy and swollen hand, it grows leaves at a visible speed. The leaves expand and lengthen to about a foot before it stops growing.
This is a magical world! Anran stares at the sprouting avocado pit in disbelief. After a while, she discards the magical pit and plans to continue resting with her eyes closed.
She feels as if everything is a dream, hoping that when she opens her eyes, the world will return to its normal state!
Doll’s whimpers start to echo in the dark blue light room, indicating that she has woken up.
Feeling helpless, Anran forces her cold and hot body up, crawls into the blue light room, and manages to stand by Doll’s’s blue light box. She weakly lifts her from the box and sits on the floor to feed her. While feeding, Anran falls asleep on the floor without realizing it.
She is utterly exhausted. Now, besides mechanically repeating the motions of holding and feeding Doll, her mind is blank.
After not sleeping for a while, Doll finishes feeding from Anran's breast, pulls away, and begins crying again. Anran, feeling exhausted and lacking the energy to comfort Doll, closes her eyes, letting the baby cry for a while. She is so tired that she has lost the will to be a mother.
But Doll is also hungry and keeps crying, waking up Chen Jiao’s son as well. So the two babies cry together. Anran can only sit up with her pounding head, switch Doll to the other side, and let it feed from her other breast.
While breastfeeding Doll, Anran also stands up to feed Chen Jiao’s son with milk. As she does this, Anran feels so tired that she could fall asleep while standing. She indeed dozes off for a moment, but suddenly her legs go weak, jolting her awake. She is startled and almost drops Doll. After finishing feeding Chen Jiao’s son, Doll is nearly full, but this time, she doesn’t fall asleep. Instead, after eating, she starts crying again with a hoarse voice.
