Chapter 359: Tang Jianjun
Chapter 359: Tang Jianjun
The other strenght ability users who haven’t been eaten by cats or rats already enter Tiesi Village. Some receive treatment from doctors and nurses, while others have their temperatures taken.
“Let’s go inside first. It’s safer in there.”
Seeing the ability users who already pass through the barrier, Yun Tao steps on the accelerator. From the horizon near the county town come the sounds of cats and mice—clearly the crisis is not far from them. As the saying goes, there is strength in numbers. After all, entering Tiesi Village is better than waiting outside it.
Zhao Ru, a water-based ability user, must think the same. Her power is no match for metal, fire, or earth ability, and she has no resistance to various crises. Besides providing water, Zhao Ru seems useless in the end times. She also has an elderly aunt to take care of, so naturally she enters Tiesi Village, seeking Tang Jianjun’s protection.
Thus, the few people who originally plan to leave Tiesi Village actually return after going in circles.
An Ran is helpless but figures that there might be a strong defense inside Tiesi Village, so she agrees to enter the barrier.
As they drive in, many soldiers and ability users rush out from the barrier, holding weapons and ready to fight cats and mice. For a moment, the entire barrier seems deserted. In the cool wind, no one pays attention to An Ran’s vehicle.
Yun Tao parks the truck inside the barrier.
An Ran opens the door and gets out, holding Doll. She walks straight to the watchtower on the side, hoping to see the direction where Zhan Lian might be.
The medical ambulance driven by Zhao Ru and Liang Ziyu stops behind the truck. Zhao Ru gets out and helps Liang Ziyu move Zhao Qianrong, who is in a wheelchair, outside to get some fresh air. Then she comes to check on the little mint in the truck.
Another team comes out of Tiesi Village and passes through the barrier. Still, no one has time to deal with An Ran and the others—they hurry through and rush toward the front line.
The watchtower is built of gray stone—neat, solid, and spacious, about three or four stories high.
An Ran climbs the stairs, holding Doll. As she reaches the top, she unexpectedly sees someone already there.
An old man with gray hair, wearing a military uniform with a star insignia, holds a telescope and looks toward the county town.
Doll hums twice and flutters inside An Ran’s scarf. The old man turns around and glances at An Ran standing at the stairwell entrance with a serious expression.
“An Ran?”
“Hmm.” An Ran hesitates a moment. Looking at the old man, she’s sure she doesn’t know him.
“My name is Tang Jianjun, hello.” The old man smiles and hands her the telescope. “Want to look? Who are you looking for, your ex-husband?”
An Ran nods. Of course she wants to see Zhan Lian. She climbed the watchtower just to look for him. But is this really Tang Jianjun? What is he doing here? Such a big leader, standing alone on a watchtower—what’s going on?
An Ran is confused but takes the telescope from him without hesitation.
Just as she lifts it to her eyes and looks into the distance, Tang Jianjun says, “The situation isn’t good. Even if we win against these cats and mice, we don’t know how many people we will lose.”
