Chapter 351: Demonstrate Your Own Value
Chapter 351: Demonstrate Your Own Value
Perhaps everything in the world really is about mutual reinforcement and mutual restriction. An Ran is a wood-type mutant, and her plants can’t harm the copper-skinned zombies. But as soon as Luo Feifan appears, he throws a fireball that melts the copper-skinned zombies immediately. So outside the hospital, except for a few zombies, there’s no real threat of attacks.
An Ran’s ability becomes even less necessary. The ordinary little zombies can be handled by Zhan Lian’s metal blade. The remaining ones that slip through are dealt with by Yun Tao and the other power mutants.
The situation stabilizes. At night, there aren’t many zombies left in the small county town. The ones that can move have basically been cleared out. Everyone packs up supplies, digs out crystal cores, and gets ready to sleep peacefully.
That night, the wind is a little strong. Besides the dim light, the branches sway back and forth, and their shadows cast on the window look like tentacle monsters baring their teeth and claws.
An Ran uses a portable gasoline stove and finds a small iron pot to cook noodles for Little Mint and Hengheng . She can’t find any mineral water, so she takes the pot and runs to the doctor’s office.
Holding the small iron pot in front of Zhao Ru, she says, “Give me some water.”
Zhao Ru sits at the table, sorting through Little Mint’s medical records. Without even raising her eyelids, she sticks her fingers into the pot, fills it halfway with water, and says casually, “Cook some noodles for my aunt. She hasn’t had hot food in a long time.”
“Oh, okay.” An Ran takes the half pot of water back to her ward and puts the noodle pot on the stove.
She’s just thinking about where to cook the noodles—there’s no table or anything in the ward—when Yun Tao carries two large barrels of mineral water upstairs. Seeing that An Ran already has water, he assumes Zhan Lian gave it to her, so he doesn’t ask. He puts down the two barrels and says, “A lot of rats came just now—many more than zombies. Be careful outside.”
“Do you want my help?” An Ran tilts her head to look at Yun Tao. Rats are small; men are usually too lazy to kill them—it’s better to let her plants eat them all.
Yun Tao smiles at her, walks closer, and says meaningfully, “Don’t underestimate men too much. Now’s the time for men to show their value.”
Just then, Zhan Lian comes up with a box of unopened disposable dishes and chopsticks. Seeing Yun Tao and An Ran standing close together, his face darkens. He throws the box on the ground and shouts, “Yun Tao, let’s go out and kill mice.”
Then he picks up a large bag of crystal cores, places it on the box, and says to An Ran, “Keep it.”
Yun Tao notices Zhan Lian’s scowl and guesses he doesn’t like seeing him that close to An Ran. So he walks over to Hengheng , touches his head, then turns and leaves the ward on his own, leaving Zhan Lian behind.
Zhan Lian tells Yun Tao to leave but doesn’t move himself. He just stands there. When he sees An Ran turn around and start looking for something, he frowns and asks, “What are you looking for?”
“I want to find a table. I can’t put all the dishes on the bed.”
“Wait.”
Zhan Lian runs out with a clatter and returns a moment later carrying a large square table. He places it outside the ward.
“You cook outside. Tell me if you need anything. I’ll make it for you.”
