Chapter 346: Turn on the Light
Chapter 346: Turn on the Light
At that moment, Zhan Lian hears Doll crying and rushes upstairs. When he sees the chaos in the ward, he shakes his head and says, “The generator still hasn’t been found.”
“What should we do?” An Ran, holding Doll, is nearly jumping from anxiety. She turns to Zhao Ru again. “Can we just do the surgery without the operating light?”
“The operating room is sealed. Even during the day, without the lights, it’s completely dark—it has to be lit,” replies Zhao Qianrong from her wheelchair. She’s deeply familiar with the layout and structure of the hospital.
“Then… what if we do it outside?” An Ran blurts out, grasping at straws. “We move all the surgical equipment into the open air.”
Zhao Ru shakes her head as she walks toward the operating room. “The smell of blood would be too strong. It’ll attract danger and make things worse. And the environment isn’t sterile. I’m a doctor—I can’t expose my patients to the risk of infection, especially the zombie virus.”
“Use this! Use this!” Luo Feifan runs up, smartly holding a large searchlight in his hand. “I found these in the supermarket next door. There are tons of them, all charged and working. We’ll hold them for you.”
The searchlight is the kind commonly used at night market stalls—anyone who’s eaten at one knows how bright they are. One can hang over a booth and last through the entire night.
“Great. Let’s use them.” Zhan Lian takes the light from Luo Feifan’s hand. Seeing that Zhao Qianrong doesn’t object, he calls out to the other men behind him. “Brothers, help me hold a few lights for the operation.”
“No problem,” the men reply. Several of them bring over a box of brand-new, unopened searchlights from the supermarket. Each grabs one and enters the operating room, lighting up the area for Zhao Ru.
An Ran follows with Doll in her arms, hoping she can help somehow. Hengheng has already snuck inside with a light, helping to brighten the room as well.
Zhao Qianrong, frowning slightly, turns her wheelchair around and says to Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan, “Go to the pharmacy and prepare some emergency medications—just in case. The names are complicated, so don’t get them wrong. I’ll list them now—remember them: coagulants…”
She quickly rattles off a list of drugs, covering all the potential crises Little Mint might encounter. These aren’t obscure medications—any county-level hospital would have them in stock.
Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan have good memories, so they don’t delegate the task. The two senior soldiers rush downstairs to the pharmacy to fetch the medicine.
Outside, Yun Tao leads a group to resist the incoming zombies, while Zhao Qianrong wheels herself into the operating room.
An Ran holds Doll and sits on a small stool near the operation area, eyes fixed on the room with growing tension.
Several men stand with their backs to the operating table, surrounding it. On their shoulders, the powerful searchlights shine brightly, illuminating Little Mint on the bed so clearly that even the fine blood vessels on her pale face can be seen.
Hengheng stands right beside Little Mint, holding a lamp with both hands. Among all the men, he’s the only one personally holding a light just for her.
Zhao Ru calmly prepares surgical tools, already dressed in sterile gloves and a surgical gown.
For some reason, An Ran feels her nose sting and her eyes turn red at the sight. Doll in her arms softly mumbles nonsense, almost as if speaking from outside the moment. An Ran doesn’t respond to Doll. She just sits there quietly, watching Zhao Ru begin cleaning Little Mint’s uterus.
