Chapter 339: A Few Turtles
Chapter 339: A Few Turtles
Zhan Lian pauses, his gaze falling on An Ran in the dark. He takes a long breath and says in an irritated tone, "Go back!"
Go back? Why is he suddenly yelling at her? She is shocked. An Ran glares at Zhan Lian’s silhouette in the dark, turns around, and angrily walks back to her ward.
Behind her, Luo Feifan lets out a bad snicker.
This is all so inexplicable!
An Ran lies back on the narrow single bed, still fuming.
Little Mint sleeps on the bed near the window, and Doll is in the middle bed. The guardrails on both sides of the bed are up, while An Ran rests on the bed near the door.
About an hour later, the hospital is still. The only sound left is the howling of zombies on the street. The moonlight is bright, and two figures swiftly dart out of the hospital. Their movements are fast and agile, and within a short time, they are crouched against the wall of the Grain Bureau’s yard.
Luo Feifan knocks on Zhan Lian’s head. The two of them cling to the wall.
Zhan Lian raises his hand to swat away Luo Feifan’s claws with an impatient look, asking: “What are you doing?”
“Are we going for a sneak attack, or what?”
“Sneak attack? With these few tortoise fish?!” Zhan Lian sneers, then flips over and jumps off the wall.
He is waiting for the patrolman at the corner of the house to rush toward him, but the patrolman is utterly unprofessional and doesn’t notice Zhan Lian jumping off the wall at all.
Luo Feifan, still clinging to the wall, shakes his head and scans the yard under the moonlight.
Luo Feifan, who has been sticking to the wall, shakes his head, observing the yard under the moonlight. The details are clear under the light, and he feels uneasy. It seems as if he and Zhan Lian are bullying these people. Their vigilance is so poor, and yet they walk in so blatantly, and still, they haven’t noticed a thing.
Zhan Lian shouts, "Hey!" to a man standing opposite him. The man hears the sound, turns sideways, and is met with a flying knife. His eyes go dark, and he collapses without a sound.
In a house outside the Grain Bureau, Lei Jiang and his men remain unaware of the situation. Zhou Xiang is still reporting Zhan Lian’s response to him.
After listening to Zhou Xiang’s report, Lei Jiang’s expression shifts slightly. Standing by the window, bathed in moonlight, he stands silently for a long time, unable to understand why Zhan Lian would refuse such a powerful alliance that would benefit their survival.
He had thought that a strong alliance would be a win-win situation for both sides!
“Captain, what should we do now?” Zhou Xiang, standing behind him, frowns and looks at Lei Jiang’s back. Before Lei Jiang can respond, Zhao Ru, who has been sitting on a sofa, speaks up.
“What else can we do?” Zhao Ru says, standing up. "With the captain’s temper, soft tactics won’t work. Next, we’ll have to use hard tactics. Don’t forget, our two teams are not far apart."
In the dark, Lei Jiang suddenly turns around, looking at Zhao Ru. “What do you mean by that?”
“Captain Lei is busy. There’s more than one wood system in the world,” Zhao Ru replies with a smile, not offering any explanation. She just tidies herself up and glances at him. “Instead of focusing on An Ran, maybe you should think about whether there are other wood systems in Tiesi Village.”
Zhao Ru has been brought to the county by Lei Jiang’s men. She has carefully observed the forces in Lei Jiang’s team. To be honest, she thinks they are average. Although everyone Lei Jiang has brought with him is an ability user, they are all people who rely on brute force.
