However, before Yun Tao and the two children can reach An Ran, Luo Feifan hurriedly climbs up the stairs from the first floor, leaps over Yun Tao, and walks straight to An Ran. He says, “Someone who went to pick up Dr. Zhao just returned and said that Dr. Zhao was taken by Lei Jiang’s men.”
“Lei Jiang?” An Ran’s expression falters, and her eyes momentarily shift away from Luo Feifan to look at Yun Tao behind him.
When Yun Tao hears the name, his expression immediately becomes serious. He walks up and stands beside Luo Feifan, saying to An Ran, “I thought the news I just heard was a coincidence, but now it’s confirmed that Lei Jiang is the person you and I know.”
“Isn’t he a local boss in Xiangcheng?” An Ran suddenly becomes anxious, her tone rising a bit without her realizing.
Just then, Zhan Lian comes down from the third floor after clearing the zombies and stands at the top of the stairs, curiously asking, “Do you know this man?”
Yun Tao turns around, looks at Zhan Lian, and nods. He says with certainty, “His target is An Ran.”
Because of Luo Feifan’s presence, Yun Tao can’t explain the whole story clearly, and as a result, Luo Feifan is left confused. However, Zhan Lian’s face grows stern as he looks into Yun Tao’s serious eyes, and he roughly guesses what Yun Tao means.
It’s simple: An Ran’s ability has been discovered by Lei Jiang, and now Lei Jiang wants to capture her.
Zhan Lian mentally curses.
“The plan has to change,” he says, turning to Luo Feifan. “Do you know where Lei Jiang is now?”
“I’ll find someone to check,” Luo Feifan replies promptly. He immediately turns and goes downstairs to send his men to locate Lei Jiang’s whereabouts.
The day before, Luo Feifan’s group left first, and Lei Jiang’s men left later. The two teams passed each other on the same street, but early this morning, Luo Feifan and Zhan Lian met up, and Lei Jiang’s group moved to another street. Now, Luo Feifan needs to send people to track their location.
Zhan Lian walks over to An Ran’s side, places a hand on her shoulder, and looks at her silent expression. He speaks softly, “Don’t worry. I promised you something, and I’ll keep my word.”
An Ran takes a deep breath, raises her face, and looks at Zhan Lian’s slightly insincere smile. “Well, thank you.”
Things have become complicated. This isn’t something that can be resolved with just a few comforting words from Zhan Lian, but he is doing his best. An Ran feels grateful and doesn’t ask for anything more.
From start to finish, this has nothing to do with Zhan Lian. Little Mint isn’t his responsibility, but Zhan Lian is doing this for her, and that’s enough.
