Chapter 335: Integration
Chapter 335: Integration
The image of An Ran’s family of three, set against the cold and dark backdrop of the apocalypse, is incredibly warm and enviable.
Yun Tao observes the family, as do many others, each feeling either a sense of sympathy or envy.
After a while, someone comes to speak with Zhan Lian. Reluctantly, he hands Doll back to An Ran and begins discussing business with the man. An Ran, holding Doll, turns around and listens quietly.
It seems that the oil barrels they have found today need to be sent back to Tiesi Village overnight. Supplies are running low in Tiesi Village, and while there is a granary in the county, it is likely located at the Grain Bureau.
Zhan Lian instructs the man to send a few people to find a car, preferably a pickup truck with a cargo box to facilitate the loading of the oil barrels. If they find a pickup, they are to bring back as much oil as possible.
An Ran is slightly confused. Once the man has left, she asks Zhan Lian, “When you came out, I heard there were four teams. Didn’t you decide who would get the oil and who would go to the Grain Bureau for the granary’s map?”
Zhan Lian shrugs, leaning against the car. “I wanted to discuss it with the others, but they didn’t discuss anything with me.”
In the disorganized Tiesi Village, there are four security captains, each from a different district. Zhan Lian has a better relationship with Luo Feifan but doesn’t know the other two at all. Tang Siluo is a troublemaker, and Zhang Boxun is unpredictable and has no friendship with Zhan Lian. Tang Jianjun wanted to look for supplies, and everyone set out on the same day at different times. Only Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan agreed on a plan. The other two captains, Zhang Boxun and Lei Jiang, did whatever they wanted. They didn’t approach Zhan Lian, and Zhan Lian doesn’t care to seek them out.
As far as Zhan Lian is concerned, although he is leaving Tiesi Village, he still wants to gather some supplies for it, at least for Luo Feifan’s sake. He asks his team to return the supplies to Tiesi Village. After all, with so many soldiers and medical staff in the village, these supplies are essential for everyone’s survival.
An Ran nods but says nothing.
Soon, the people sent to find a vehicle return with a medium-sized truck, loaded with numerous oil barrels, and escorted by two people. They drive directly back to Tiesi Village.
That night, as they set up camp, An Ran lays the car seat flat and sleeps in the vehicle with Doll and Little Mint. Zhan Lian remains on guard, leading a few people to search the area around the gas station, eliminating zombies and looking for supplies. He doesn’t sleep at all and stays busy.
By morning, Zhang Boxun hasn’t made any moves. Zhan Lian and his team pack a car full of supplies and send two people back to Tiesi Village before continuing their journey toward the county’s Grain Bureau.
The county’s Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital is in the direction of the Grain Bureau. The entire county is small, about the size of two or three streets, with one long street that takes roughly two hours to walk from one end to the other.
Their convoy hasn’t traveled far when they encounter Luo Feifan’s team. There are only about 20 people left in his team, with 10 having been sent back to deliver supplies. Now, only 10 remain, following Luo Feifan in and out of the Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital.
Zhan Lian’s team, also small, joins forces with Luo Feifan’s to form a combined group of 30 people. They set up camp next to the hospital.
Because they need to perform surgery on Little Mint, the first priority at the long-deprived hospital is to restore its power supply. Zhan Lian discusses this with Luo Feifan, who goes to search for a generator, while An Ran takes Doll in her arms and gets out of the car to see the hospital’s environment for herself.
