Chapter 315: This Is What Real Sin Looks Like
Zhao Qianru looked somewhat helpless, while Zhao Ru smiled brightly and sat on the armrest of Zhao Qianrong’s chair, kneading Zhao Qianrong’s shoulders as she coaxed,
“But I’m not stupid either. The apocalypse is here—if there’s danger, I know how to run. Great-Aunt, stop worrying about me.”
Then Zhao Ru’s gaze fell on the medical record Zhao Qianrong was writing. The hands massaging Zhao Qianrong’s shoulders paused for a moment, then resumed, and Zhao Ru asked in an offhand tone,
“I just saw the Fourth District battle captain’s ex-wife come downstairs with a little girl. Is that little girl the one in the medical record you’re writing?”
“Mm.”
Enjoying Zhao Ru’s massage, Zhao Qianrong never stopped writing with the pen in her hand. Faced with a child calling her Great-Aunt, Zhao Qianrong did not hide anything.
So Zhao Ru frowned. As she watched Zhao Qianrong write the medical record, she added, “Under the current medical conditions, if I were the lead surgeon on this operation, how much could the risk be reduced?”
“Hard to say.”
Zhao Qianrong’s pen never paused.
“We should still change to a large hospital and get all the emergency medication prepared first. If that really isn’t possible, then this child can only… keep dragging it out. Let’s just hope that whatever’s in her belly isn’t some malignant cyst.”
“And if that shadow is a fetus, it still wouldn’t be easy to deliver it.”
Zhao Ru looked at Zhao Qianrong’s medical record with a frown. From a doctor’s point of view, Zhao Ru did not recommend that a thirteen-year-old girl give birth. She was still a child herself.
Then Zhao Qianrong turned her head to look at Zhao Ru, who was sitting beside her, and asked in puzzlement,
“Didn’t you say performing abortions for people was immoral? Why are you now thinking of going back to work at a hospital?”
A few years earlier, Zhao Ru had graduated from a famous medical school abroad. After returning to China, under Zhao Qianrong’s arrangements, she had gone to intern in the obstetrics and gynecology department of a major hospital in the capital, with a bright future ahead of her.
Yet Zhao Ru had quit and run off after less than two years. She had said only that in obstetrics and gynecology she was constantly being assigned to outpatient procedures, performing abortions for girls, and that it conflicted with her beliefs. The child inside those girls’ wombs was also a small life, she said, and performing abortions for people was sinful, and so on.
But Zhao Ru’s medical talent was a true inheritance of Zhao Qianrong’s. And this was not simply Zhao Qianrong being overprotective of her own. In all of Tiesi Village, if there was anyone who could actually perform surgery on Little Mint, there really was only Zhao Ru.
Zhao Ru let out a self-mocking laugh, stood up, and sat across from Zhao Qianrong, then sighed to her,
“But I feel that with society in the state it’s in now, if we just leave that little girl like this and do nothing, this is what real sin looks like.”
Then Zhao Ru looked into Zhao Qianrong’s clear black-and-white eyes and smiled in a coaxing, almost spoiled way.
“Great-Aunt, just let me do the surgery. Talk to the battle captain and tell him a suitable doctor has already been found. Now all we need to do is find a large hospital.”
“All right.”
Zhao Qianrong looked at Zhao Ru and smiled indulgently. In times of chaos, if her grandniece was willing to step forward and contribute some strength to society, then there could be nothing better.
Outside the back door, An Ran—who had already come out—had no idea how the women behind her were talking about her, nor what exactly Zhao Ru’s relationship with Zhao Qianrong was. She only kept a straight face and led Little Mint to the car. She placed Doll into the infant safety seat behind the driver’s seat and had just turned to get into the back seat.
Zhan Lian, sitting in the driver’s seat, turned around and pointed at the front passenger seat beside him.
“An Ran, sit here and help me watch the side mirror. I’m afraid I’ll scrape the car.”
