Chapter 314: I Support Your Career
Chapter 314: I Support Your Career
Tang Siluo, who has been trailing behind, thinks for a moment and decides she can’t just give up on her mission to "save" An Ran. She explains to the women around her, then leaves them behind to catch up with An Ran at the back door. She calls out:
"Sister-in-law, can you please be a little kinder? I know you're upset, but you've been through this... I—"
An Ran spins around, her irritation flaring up. With one hand holding her child, she slaps Tang Siluo across the face, knocking her head to the side. Coldly, she says: "First of all, I know you look down on me. No matter where your contempt comes from, let me tell you that my abilities are beyond what you, who have never experienced an existential crisis, could possibly understand."
An Ran sneers as she sees the disbelief on Tang Siluo’s face. Summoning the courage she’s used to kill zombies, she continues: "Secondly, what’s your relationship with Zhan Lian? You two can sort that out yourselves. Whether you pity him or think he’s not worth it, he’s the father of my daughter, and he’s willing to take responsibility for her. If you have the guts, go talk to him and ask him to stop caring about us. If you can’t, then don’t bother me!"
She pauses, then adds her third point: "I support your career. What you’re doing is important to humanity’s survival, but I’m just an ordinary woman. Before I go around spreading great love, I just want to take care of my child. Yes, I’m selfish, I can’t compete with your nobility and selflessness. Please, stop focusing on me and interfering in other people’s business. Thank you!!!"
After scolding Tang Siluo, An Ran walks away, still holding Little Mint. Her hand tingles from the slap, realizing that Tang Siluo has probably never been hit with such force in her life.
By the time An Ran finishes her outburst and leaves through the back door, Tang Siluo hasn’t yet recovered from the shock.
Meanwhile, on the third floor in the office, Zhao Qianrong is meticulously writing a medical record for Little Mint. As part of her responsibility to her patient, the 70-year-old doctor is carefully considering the best course of action for Doll.
Zhao Ru pushes open the door and peeks in, a grin on her face. "Aunt, you’re still not off work?"
Zhao Qianrong, who has been sitting at her desk, looks up over her reading glasses and asks, "Where have you been running around again? This world’s a mess as it is, so why are you constantly heading out to Tiesi Village? What’s gotten into you?"
Zhao Ru just smiles and says nothing, wearing an expression of innocence, as if being scolded by Zhao Qianrong has become second nature. She walks into the office and shamelessly replies, while playfully striking a pose:
"Who’s gonna bully me? I’m a third-degree black belt!"
"A third-degree black belt isn’t going to help much in the apocalypse," Zhao Qianrong mutters, shaking her head. At 70 years old, she feels half her life has already passed. Since the end of the world, most of her friends and relatives have turned into zombies. The only family left is her little niece, Zhao Ru.
Despite Zhao Ru’s independent and strong-willed nature—having gone to South Africa years ago to join a women’s rescue organization—Zhao Qianrong still can’t help but worry. After all, even though she can control her niece’s physical well-being, how can she control her heart?
(Translator’s Notes: That slap was soooo satisfying. I’ve been wanting her to do that for a loooooong time. No matter what country or what situation, even in an apocalypse, putting a KAREN in her place feels so so good.)
