Chapter 296: Some Things Still Need to Be Handled
Tang Siluo sits angrily inside a car parked by the roadside. In the passenger seat beside her, Zhao Ru has been chatting with her. But as soon as Zhao Ru sees Lei Jiang approaching, she lowers her voice and says, “Captain, Commander Lei is here.”
Tang Siluo turns her head and looks out the window. Seeing Lei Jiang standing outside, she huffs and asks, “What are you doing here? Is Zhan Lian chasing after me?”
“No, Captain Luo talked him down.”
Judging by Lei Jiang’s casual response, it’s clear that he and Tang Siluo aren’t strangers. Since arriving in Tiesi Village, Lei Jiang has deliberately chosen to settle in District 3. It isn’t just because the other districts are already occupied by major survivor groups, but also because the captain of District 3 is a woman.
Women are easier to deal with.
Lei Jiang has his own way of doing things. Though his influence in District 3 is growing, he never oppresses Tang Siluo. Instead, he always defers to her, helping to maintain order in the district. As a result, he has naturally become one of her most trusted aides.
Tang Siluo herself isn’t particularly capable—she’s a low-level strength-type ability user. Her role as the leader of District 3 is simply a matter of carrying out Tang Jianjun’s orders. If Tang Jianjun says one, it’s one; if he says two, it’s two. She doesn’t need to think about anything—just follow instructions.
With Lei Jiang assisting her, she has even less to worry about, allowing her to focus entirely on post-disaster reconstruction. And when she isn’t busy with that, she often finds excuses to visit Luo Feifan. Everyone can see what she’s after.
So when she hears that Luo Feifan has managed to calm the furious Zhan Lian, her cheeks flush slightly, and her anger eases a little. But then, recalling Zhan Lian’s rudeness, she snaps, “That Zhan Lian—if he weren’t Feifan’s brother, I wouldn’t give a damn about his wife! She humiliated him so badly, and yet he still—ugh, it makes me so mad!”
“Some things still need to be handled,” Lei Jiang says, smiling down at Tang Siluo through the window. “I originally thought Anran was just Zhan Lian’s ex-wife, that he’d only arrange a place for her to stay. That’s why I suggested you settle her in District 3. I didn’t expect Zhan Lian to have his own plans.”
So it’s Lei Jiang who has secretly urged Tang Siluo to have Anran speak in District 3 about her tragic experiences!
“What’s so bad about District 3, anyway?” Tang Siluo grumbles. “It’s full of widows and orphans who support each other, and the environment is much more stable. Zhan Lian is just too stubborn.”
If her father didn’t value Zhan Lian, she would’ve already gone to complain about him. But Tang Jianjun is a serious man, preoccupied with bigger concerns—like the food crisis. He doesn’t care about Zhan Lian’s ex-wife’s trauma. As long as Zhan Lian is happy, Tang Jianjun lets him be.
“Hmm, but there’s one thing I don’t quite understand,” Lei Jiang muses, smiling slightly as he gazes down at Tang Siluo. His tone is half-inquisitive, half-probing. “I never had any dealings with Captain Zhan before, so I didn’t know much about his personal affairs. But didn’t he and Anran already get divorced? Anran’s child is still very young, and from what I’ve gathered, she and Yun Tao always presented themselves as a married couple. So that child…”
“The child is definitely Zhan Lian’s!” Tang Siluo huffs, still annoyed that Zhan Lian doesn’t appreciate her good intentions. But she isn’t about to twist the truth. “Brother Feifan said that Anran got pregnant when she visited Zhan Lian in the northwest three months before their divorce.”
