Chapter 238: Be Cautious in Everything
Chapter 238: Be Cautious in Everything
The end of the world comes suddenly, stripping humanity of its modern civilization overnight. Without the support of technology and infrastructure, survival becomes an impossible dream for individuals.
Anran has the ability to survive now, but the zombies are evolving. A bronze-skinned, iron-boned zombie kills Liu Yuan—who can guarantee that all zombies won’t eventually evolve into something just as terrifying?
How will she survive then?
To put it bluntly, her ability allows her to control plants, accelerate their growth, and even hear their whispers—but in the face of a bronze-skinned, iron-boned zombie, what use is that?
In the end, people are meant to survive in groups.
Anran hesitates, Yun Tao’s words leaving her somewhat shaken. After a moment, she slowly nods and asks, "When do we leave?"
"No rush," Yun Tao replies. "I’ll go check out the park first and see if the survivors there are planning to leave. If they’re also heading to northern Hubei, we can follow them. We need to be cautious in everything."
The park by the northbound highway is a place Yun Tao has visited twice before with his son. It’s quite large, filled with a variety of flowers and plants, and even has several rare trees under national first-class protection.
Judging by the way the zombies in this area are swarming toward the park, there are bound to be survivors there. But both Yun Tao and Anran have seen the dark side of survivor groups. Until they are sure this group is safe, they will keep their distance and observe from the shadows.
"Agreed," Anran says with a sigh of relief. "We shouldn’t rush into joining them."
She has been genuinely worried that Yun Tao might decide to take the children straight to the survivors in the park. After all, Yun Tao is resourceful—he can hotwire a car without keys and has the skills to navigate the apocalypse with ease.
After confirming their plan, Yun Tao eats a quick meal at noon, then drives off to scavenge for supplies and scout out the survivors' team.
Meanwhile, Anran stays behind at the motel. She wraps Doll in a sling and wanders around with Little Mint and Hengheng, searching for anything useful.
There are several self-built houses near the motel—some have already been looted, while others still have supplies hidden away. While searching one of them, she and Little Mint find a bucket of drinking water. The water looks clear and safe to drink.
Just as they are heading back toward the motel with their find, Anran catches sight of a familiar vehicle approaching from a distance.
Her ex-husband’s car.
Even though it’s dented and battered, its stubborn frame still holds together. The license plate is unmistakable—it’s the same one from her old family car.
Anran’s heart clenches.
Her experiences with Green Dragon tattooed man’s people have left her deeply scarred. She immediately grabs Little Mint and Hengheng, holding Doll close as she hurriedly flees behind the motel.
Her ex-husband’s car has been abandoned at a gas station, and the keys had been in the Green Dragon tattooed man’s possession. This means that whoever is driving it now isn’t the Green Dragon tattooed man himself—but they are definitely connected to him.
Anyone who has made it out of the zombie hordes alive has to be formidable. Anran isn’t sure if she can win a fight while protecting three children. The instinct to avoid danger kicks in, and she chooses to hide first.
She runs into a nearby construction site, pressing herself into the shadows.
Only when she sees that the driver of her ex-husband’s car hasn’t followed her does she finally exhale, her tense shoulders loosening just slightly.
For now, she will wait.
Wait for Green Dragon tattooed man’s people to pass.
