Chapter 232: The Iron-Bodied Zombies Are Approaching
Anran is startled. The car horn is blaring so loudly—is that driver looking for death? She turns around and calls out to Yun Tao, who is walking behind her.
"Brother Tao, there's a car behind us. Is that person stupid?!"
Yun Tao, weighed down with bags, glances back at the car Anran is talking about. It’s still far away, but in the sunset glow, it stands taller than the sea of zombies swarming around it. The vehicle is completely covered in undead.
The driver is being reckless, honking wildly in the middle of the zombie tide, attracting far too much attention. In no time, the car is overwhelmed and stuck in place, unable to move forward.
For Anran and her group, however, this is a golden opportunity. They no longer need to use the olfactory zombies as bait. The undead behind them have already shifted their attention toward the car instead.
"It's fine," Yun Tao says. "That guy just helped block most of the zombies for us. Let's go!"
At that moment, frantic whispers ring out in Anran’s mind—several small voices crying out in fear.
"It's getting closer, closer!"
"It's coming!"
"It can't be bitten!"
The iron-skinned zombie is approaching.
Anran’s heart clenches. She turns to Yun Tao and says urgently, "It's here. It's not far from us. We need to move now!"
Yun Tao quickens his pace, and Little Mint, holding Hengheng’s hand, hurriedly follows. They push forward with great difficulty, making their way to the Volkswagen SUV.
Far behind them, Zhan Lian seethes with frustration as he watches his car drown in the zombie horde once again. He slams the horn in irritation before cursing under his breath.
"Fuck this."
With that, he flings open the car door and leaps out. At this point, it’s faster to walk than to drive.
From the second floor of the mall, he catches a glimpse of his wife, holding their child in her arms. He curses his luck. If only he had awakened some kind of powerful sonic ability—or better yet, grown wings—he could fly straight to her!
The moment Zhan Lian steps out of the car, the zombies let out an excited roar, their shrieks filling the air. One lunges at him, but he kicks it away with a powerful strike. Large, circular rings appear around him, razor-sharp edges gleaming under the dimming sunlight, slicing apart any undead that come too close.
Slashing his way forward, he follows the direction Anran has taken, cutting down zombies as he moves.
Since his wife loves making things difficult for herself, he might as well help by drawing away some of the zombies’ attention.
In the roadside flowerbed, green bushes tremble as if they want to grow larger and block this terrifying human, but without Anran’s power, they can only sway helplessly in the wind.
Meanwhile, Yun Tao has already reached the SUV. Without wasting a second, he drops the heavy bags, pulls a thin wire from his pocket, and deftly picks the car lock. Sliding into the driver’s seat, he punches through a panel, yanks out two wires, and hotwires the engine.
Anran gathers the scattered bags and luggage, flings open the trunk, and stuffs everything inside. Little Mint carries Hengheng into the car, placing two barrels of crystal cores on the back seat before shoving the rest of their belongings into the trunk.
Once the engine roars to life, Yun Tao jumps out of the driver’s seat, grabs the car seat from the ground, and swiftly installs it in the back. Anran unfastens the sling and carefully places Doll inside before settling next to it.
With the ropes of the olfactory zombies still in his hand, Yun Tao releases one of them to draw the surrounding zombies away from the car.
Then, without hesitation, he climbs into the driver’s seat, shoots a glance at Hengheng in the passenger seat, slams his foot on the accelerator, and tears out of the zombie-infested plaza—dragging the remaining olfactory zombies behind them.
