Chapter 227: You Have No Choice
Chapter 227: You Have No Choice
At that moment, Hengheng, who is sleeping in Yun Tao’s arms, suddenly opens his eyes and starts to cry.
“I won’t leave! I won’t leave! I want to find my mother! Mom, come back! I want my mom!”
“Enough!!!”
Yun Tao’s sudden roar is so sharp that even Anran and Little Mint flinch.
With a stern expression, Yun Tao sets Hengheng down on the ground and glares at him. “You’re a boy! Crying all day—what kind of person does that make you? This is the world we live in now. No matter how much you cry, your mother isn’t coming back! The only thing you can do is accept it!”
Hengheng freezes, his lips trembling. His eyes redden as he glares at Yun Tao, stubbornly refusing to let the tears fall.
Seeing the boy’s reaction, Yun Tao’s expression softens. His heart aches, and he reaches out to hug him. But Hengheng slaps his hands away, clenches his tiny fists, and screams, “I hate you! I hate you! I don’t like you!!!”
“You have no choice!” Yun Tao snaps.
Without giving Hengheng a chance to struggle, he lifts him up and carries him toward the third-floor exit. No matter how much Hengheng punches and kicks him, Yun Tao doesn’t loosen his grip. Right now, finding a way out is the priority.
The third-floor exit is secured with a locked glass door and a metal shutter. Since it is located on the second floor, it has remained relatively safe. Yun Tao sets Hengheng down near the shutter and pulls a thin wire from his pocket, quickly picking the lock. With a swift motion, he rolls up the shutter, revealing four large glass doors.
Outside, a group of wandering zombies immediately presses themselves against the glass, drawn by the noise.
“Stay here. Don’t move.”
Yun Tao puts Hengheng down. Seeing that he is standing still and not running around, Yun Tao turns his attention to the lock on the glass doors. Confident in his strength, he twists the long lock with both hands and breaks it open. The moment he pushes the doors apart, the stench of rot fills the air.
With his upgraded abilities, killing zombies has become much easier. He doesn’t even need a weapon—his fists alone are enough to crush their skulls. Within moments, the horde outside Gate No. 3 is completely wiped out.
Yun Tao turns back and picks up Hengheng, who has gone eerily quiet. He carries him onto the flat rooftop area just beyond the glass doors.
In front of them, an electric escalator—now long out of service—leads down to the first floor. Beyond that, a cluster of entertainment venues stands in the distance, including KTV lounges, foot massage parlors, and beauty salons.
However, the biggest problem isn’t the abandoned buildings—it’s the sheer number of zombies below.
The first floor is packed with the undead. Even the escalator is crawling with zombies trying to make their way upstairs. Looking out as far as the eye can see, every visible space is flooded with them.
Meanwhile, inside the mall, Anran and Little Mint move quickly, each carrying a large canvas bag as they raid the remaining supplies.
They find the bags in a maternity store—most likely promotional giveaways from a formula brand. The reason they choose canvas bags instead of plastic ones is simple:
Plastic bags are too noisy.
In a life-or-death situation, even the crinkle of plastic could be fatal.
