Chapter 195: Many Things to Know
Chapter 195: Many Things to Know
It doesn’t matter if you go in the wrong direction—just turn around in time and keep exploring eastward.
Zhan Lian doesn’t expect the number of zombies to keep increasing, to the point where his car is nearly buried. If there are any more, he might as well be swimming in this sea of zombies!
The sight amazes him.
Meanwhile, in the east mall, Anran, Doll, and Little Mint are still trapped in the fitting room. Doll has slept and woken up multiple times. Each time she wakes up, she starts crying. And crying means she wants food. Sometimes, after eating, she doesn’t go back to sleep but instead stares at everything around her with wide-eyed curiosity.
Being held in Anran’s arms isn’t enough—lying down won’t do; she has to be held upright. The moment Anran tries to lay her down, she starts crying again.
Anran can’t understand how such a tiny child—only about 50 centimeters tall, with a head too small to even stay upright—can be so eager to learn about the world.
Then again, maybe it’s not so surprising. Doll’s temperament probably comes from Zhan Lian. He’s the same—always coming up with unnecessary ideas. Their house had been perfectly fine, but he became obsessed with tearing out the decorations just to remodel it in a traditional Chinese style.
The traces of their movements keep the surrounding zombies lingering for a long time. Though Anran and Little Mint try to be as quiet as possible, Doll’s occasional noises can’t be entirely avoided.
Among the horde, a few zombies seem to have particularly sharp hearing. Even the faintest sound Doll makes is enough for them to pinpoint their location.
And so, Anran, Doll, and Little Mint remain trapped in the fitting room.
The first floor of the mall echoes with the constant groans of zombies. In this dire situation, Anran desperately thinks of a way to get to the shopping carts in the lobby.
Under normal circumstances, it would only take a few steps to reach the underground supermarket entrance from the clothing store. But now, the entire path is packed with zombies, and Anran’s current safe zone is no more than two square meters. How is she supposed to retrieve those food-laden shopping carts?
Sitting in the cramped fitting room, she feeds Doll, then checks Doll’s soaked diaper and sighs. She removes it, but after looking around, she realizes there’s nothing to replace it with. Helpless, she has no choice but to wrap the same diaper back around Doll.
Before the apocalypse, changing a wet diaper had been a simple, mindless task. Now, it feels like a luxury.
They can’t stay trapped in this tiny fitting room forever—they have to find a way out!
It’s not just about Doll’s diaper; they also have to think about Little Mint. She hasn’t eaten in hours.
Anran turns to the child standing in front of her and asks, “Little Mint, are you hungry?”
She herself doesn’t feel hunger after absorbing crystal cores, but Little Mint is different. They have been trapped in the fitting room for hours—it’s only natural for her to be starving.
Little Mint stands barefoot, holding a clothing hook in her hand. She has been using it to poke at a crystal core hidden in a patch of greenery. The metal hook parts the soft green leaves, and as she pries the crystal loose, thin roots wrap around the hook. However, since it’s metal, the living plant can’t do anything to stop her.
Finally, she succeeds in pulling out a crystal core. With a blank expression, she bends down, picks it up, and turns to hand it to Anran.
Anran is momentarily stunned. Then, she realizes—Little Mint has been busy all this time, not for herself, but to collect crystal cores for Anran.
