Chapter 194: The Opportunity Will Come Soon
How do so many people go out, but only one person comes back?
Lei Jiang really can’t figure it out. How can this man, who throws flying knives, kill so many of his powerful superhumans? Is throwing knives also a superpower?
Thinking about all the strange abilities emerging in this apocalypse, Lei Jiang chuckles. This is truly broadening his horizons. He, a man who manipulates soil and alters terrain, has now encountered someone who throws knives with deadly precision and someone who accelerates the growth of rice, vegetables, and fruit. Who knows what other bizarre abilities he will come across in the future? This world is full of unknowns and unexpected possibilities.
According to Lei Jiang’s surveillance, the zombies haven’t evolved significantly in the days since Green Dragon tattooed man and Zeng Fan leave to find gasoline. Only a small number of zombies follow them to the gas station. However, within just two days, the zombies rapidly evolve and begin forming groups.
What is driving their evolution? And what is their ultimate form? Lei Jiang has no answers. He only knows that humanity’s survival is hanging by a thread.
Before Zeng Fan arrives at the park, the zombies near the gas station in the east all move in the same direction, but more and more zombies also start converging toward the park. Zeng Fan’s arrival leads a horde of zombies to besiege the area. In addition, a large underground supermarket in the east is still surrounded by a dense cluster of zombies.
It seems likely that the survivors in that supermarket have been recklessly driving through the city earlier, stirring up zombies from multiple streets.
“Judging by the direction those zombies are moving, it should be where the mobile granary ran,” Lei Jiang observes.
Zeng Fan has no idea how Lei Jiang determines the movement patterns of zombies. All he knows is that zombies have been swarming around him the entire way, and he has inadvertently led a large number of them to the park. Of course, he has no doubt that the zombies are still calling for more of their kind.
So he doesn’t understand how Lei Jiang can tell that zombies are still surrounding the east side. If there are any survivors over there, they are likely the few remaining members of the mobile granary who manage to escape.
Lei Jiang nods without saying much, letting Zeng Fan take a break before sending him outside the park to kill zombies. Then, he turns back to his telescope, continuing to monitor the zombie tide, looking for an opportunity to see if he can rescue the mobile granary Zeng Fan mentions.
Of course, this won’t be easy. They are, after all, surrounded by a sea of zombies. But if this mobile granary is as extraordinary as Zeng Fan claims, Lei Jiang thinks it’s worth trying, even if it’s difficult.
That opportunity comes soon.
Not long after Zeng Fan returns, the zombies surrounding the park find new prey in the nearby streets. The tide of zombies shifts slightly, and judging by their movements, the new prey must be quite large.
However, the newcomer has no intention of approaching the park. It seems he is merely scouting the area. Upon discovering the large number of survivors here, he quickly decides against joining them.
But getting in is easy—leaving is the real challenge.
He arrives with the zombie tide, but now he must leave against it. Zombies swarm him from all directions. Despite his impressive abilities, he is momentarily trapped.
Zhan Lian, the so-called “new prey,” looks at the zombies crawling over his car, frustration written all over his face.
It’s only after traveling a few blocks past the park that he realizes why the west has drawn so many zombies—it’s because a large group of survivors is holed up here.
