Chapter 192: Lei Jiang
Chapter 192: Lei Jiang
Seeing Zeng Fan return, someone on the roof of a car lets out a hoarse chuckle and calls out,
"Zeng Fan, didn’t you leave with the team to find gasoline? Where’s the gas? And why are you the only one back?"
Zeng Fan doesn’t answer. He clumsily climbs onto the car, scrambles through the gap between two vehicles, and slips past the cordon. Without stopping, he asks urgently, "Where’s the boss?"
Zeng Fan is part of the Green Dragon tattooed man’s team sent to find gasoline. They successfully reach a gas station after crossing a few blocks, fill up the fuel, and prepare to return. However, on the way back, the Green Dragon tattooed man’s leader discovers three living girls.
Rather than heading straight back, the group decides to indulge themselves first. Some get so carried away that they even consider not returning at all—the Green Dragon tattooed man simply takes his team to Xiang City for further entertainment, completely disregarding Lei Jiang’s orders.
What they don’t anticipate is that, in the extra one or two days of delay, disaster strikes.
The entire team—more than 20 or 30 people, almost all of them power users—is wiped out, one by one.
In the end, only Zeng Fan survives.
This loss will undoubtedly infuriate the boss. Talented individuals are scarce in the apocalypse. Lei Jiang painstakingly gathers those 20 or 30 men from different places and sends them out under the Green Dragon tattooed man’s command. He even spends a fortune ensuring they have fuel for the vehicles.
And now?
They’re all gone.
Zeng Fan alone has made it back. How can he possibly explain this to Lei Jiang?
But he has no choice.
Surviving alone in this world of zombies and monsters is impossible for someone like him. He isn’t a power user. If he wants to live, he needs to find someone powerful to rely on—just like clinging to a big tree for shade.
A nearby survivor points toward the park and says, "Boss is in the teahouse." Then, without another word, they go back to their business.
This is a gathering of strays, a makeshift group pulled together from all walks of life. There is no real camaraderie between them. Whether Zeng Fan returns alone or with his team, it makes little difference to the others.
Taking a deep breath, Zeng Fan forces his weak, hungry body forward. He hurries into the park, following the stone path until he reaches the teahouse.
The place is peaceful and refined, a stark contrast to the outside world. As he passes through a long corridor, he notices rooms lining the sides.
Inside, women occupy each room—some weeping softly, while others serve men.
This, Zeng Fan thinks, is the correct role for women in the apocalypse.
Although some women awaken abilities, their strength is never on par with men. Survivors witness it firsthand—when a man and a woman awaken powers on the same day, the man’s abilities are simply stronger.
That is a fact.
Moreover, women are naturally weaker. Even if they possess abilities, few dare to venture outside to fight zombies. Lei Jiang is considered a good leader, but he isn’t about to take in burdens. If a woman wants to stay, she has to prove her worth.
Zeng Fan pays little attention to the scene as he continues his search.
Finally, he reaches the center of the teahouse, where a small pavilion stands—the highest point in the entire area. From here, one can overlook all of Xiang City’s star district.
At the top, Lei Jiang stands, gazing into the distance.
Zeng Fan looks up at his broad back and calls out softly, "Brother."
Lei Jiang holds a high-powered telescope, surveying the horde of zombies beyond the pavilion. Upon hearing Zeng Fan’s voice, he lowers the telescope and turns around. His expression is stern and imposing as he studies Zeng Fan climbing up to meet him.
Then, with a deep frown, Lei Jiang asks, "Why did you come back alone?"
