Chapter 188: Little Mint
Chapter 188: Little Mint
Little Mint nods mechanically. “Yeah… okay.”
Anran smiles and pats the girl's head. “Wait a moment, I’ll figure something out for you.”
But what can she do?
Anran thinks for a moment, glancing outside the cramped fitting room at the small two-square-meter lily field. Then, she carefully pulls her chest away from Doll, who has just finished nursing. Doll lets out a dissatisfied whimper, so Anran absentmindedly pops a pacifier into her mouth, successfully coaxing her into quiet.
Then, Anran stands up, gently pushing aside the green flower stems as she steps toward the fitting room door.
Doll, exhausted from hunger and prolonged crying, is too tired to fuss. Now full, she rests against Anran’s shoulder, sucking lazily on the pacifier with her eyes half-closed, drifting toward sleep.
As Anran takes a couple of steps into the flower field, the zombie bones beneath her feet let out a crisp, unsettling creak. The moment the sound reaches the outside, the sharp-eared zombies let out eerie cries, summoning their kind to rush toward her.
Anran immediately freezes, focusing her energy. The supernatural power within her flares up, and the zombies charging at her stumble into the flower field one by one, only to be swallowed whole by the thick green branches and intertwining white roots.
The lily field isn’t large, only about two square meters, but the zombies come at her relentlessly, piling up as they are devoured. Soon, their remains—bones tangled with white roots—form a half-height wall around the perimeter. Delicate white lilies bloom atop the wall, standing in eerie contrast to the carnage beneath them.
Turning her head to check on Little Mint, Anran hesitates before stepping further into the flower field. She adjusts Doll in her arms, gently patting her back.
“Don’t come in yet,” she warns. “I’m not sure if I can control them. Help me pick up the crystal cores outside.”
Even though she doesn’t fully understand her own ability, Anran has a vague sense of how the lily field works. She isn’t sure how she knows—she just does.
If these lilies can absorb zombie remains as nutrients, then they can probably devour humans too. It’s dangerous for Little Mint to step into the field, especially since Anran still doesn’t know how to make the lilies differentiate between zombies and people. Maybe one day, when her power grows stronger, she will learn how.
Standing within the flower field, Anran feels a strange sense of control—like she’s standing in her own little world. It’s a mysterious feeling, but in this space, she knows she is completely safe. No matter how wild or aggressive the lilies become, they won’t harm her.
But this control only extends to a two-square-meter range.
As Anran moves toward the wall, the lilies in front of her clear a path, swallowing any zombies in their way. But as she moves forward, the lilies behind her lose her influence and revert back to ordinary plants.
Still, for now, two square meters is enough.
A few steps to the left, she spots a clothing rack. Holding Doll in one arm, she grabs a clothing hook with the other and reaches for the wall. With a quick jab, she manages to knock down a men's pullover.
