Chapter 187: Wu Yuhe
Chapter 187: Wu Yuhe
Beneath the lily field, the skeletal remains of zombies intertwine with clusters of white flower balls.
They are definitely lilies.
Anran has heard that some lilies are poisonous, while others are edible.
But what about lilies that have grown using zombies as nutrients?
The question isn’t whether they can be eaten—it’s whether anyone would dare to eat them.
Anran frowns, clutching Doll tightly as she huddles in the small fitting room, watching the zombies still swarming toward her.
In truth, her ability has never been about making plants bear fruit. Whether they do or not no longer matters. What matters is that she has finally unlocked the true nature of her power.
She can turn harmless flowers and plants into monstrous, ever-growing entities.
For plants to thrive, they need sunlight, water, and fertile soil.
But here, in this new world, the blood and flesh of zombies have become the ultimate fertilizer.
That has to be it.
A realization dawns on her. Why do her injuries heal so quickly? It has to be connected to her ability.
Although this theory makes sense to her, she isn’t entirely sure. Maybe one day, if she finds the government or some research organization, those intelligent people can tell her exactly what kind of power she possesses.
Another discovery strikes her—whenever her body feels numb and agonizing, like she’s being gnawed by thousands of ants, she only has to touch a zombie’s crystal core with her hand. Instinctively, her body absorbs the energy from it.
She has unknowingly trained herself to do this. When her ability is pushed to its absolute limit, she figures out—without being taught—how to replenish herself using crystal cores.
For now, at least, she has survived.
Now that the immediate crisis has passed, Anran finally has the mental space to focus on something else. She turns to the little girl who has been by her side the whole time. The child sits there, dazed and expressionless.
Anran moves closer and asks softly, “Are you scared?”
The girl takes a long moment to respond. When she finally does, she shakes her head, then instinctively leans into Anran and Doll. Lowering her head, she whispers, “I’ve seen scarier things than this.”
A child, no older than thirteen or fourteen.
Alone in this world, without parents.
Violated by a group of men.
What could be more terrifying than that?
In the apocalypse, survival is already difficult for a woman—let alone a child.
Anran sighs, adjusting Doll in her arms while gently placing a hand on the girl’s head. Her voice is soft.
“What’s your name?”
The girl hesitates for a moment before answering.
“My mother used to call me Little Mint.” She looks up at Anran, a faint spark of life flickering in her otherwise dull eyes. “My full name is Wu Yuhe. But you can call me Little Mint too.”
She speaks as if she doesn’t want just anyone calling her that—like it’s a name reserved for those she truly trusts.
Anran smiles. She glances at the makeshift sheet wrapped around Little Mint and then points toward the clothes still hanging on the wall outside the fitting room.
“Do you want to pick out something to wear? You’ll catch a cold like that.”
The clothing store was once neatly organized, with rows of hangers filled with clothes. But when the horde of zombies stormed in, they overturned everything. The new clothes that had fallen to the ground are now trampled and ruined.
Only a few garments remain untouched, still hanging on the wall.
But they are all adult-sized—and all men’s clothing. Jackets, leather coats, long-sleeved shirts, and T-shirts.
It isn’t much, but it’s something.
