Chapter 160: The Woman in the Car Gets Out
Chapter 160: The Woman in the Car Gets Out
The dead body in the corridor is most likely killed by Anran, and in this end-of-the-world scenario, that’s perfectly acceptable.
Zhan Lian feels relieved; this is how it should be. Realizing this, he rushes to the security room to adjust the surveillance. It’s the simplest and most convenient method available.
This community has a solar backup power system. While the power has gone out in the owner’s house, the community’s infrastructure remains unaffected. Zhan Lian anticipated this when he purchased the house. He also knows how to operate the complex surveillance system. For someone like him, it isn’t a problem.
Within minutes, Zhan Lian locates Anran’s whereabouts.
Staring at the screen, he sees her in the elevator, holding a child, carrying a large bag, and dragging a suitcase—preparing to escape. Zhan Lian freezes the image and zooms in slightly. His hand reaches out, gently touching Anran’s face through the screen. Pain flashes across Zhan Lian's expression.
"Wife, you’ve worked so hard."
He owes Anran so much, and he fears he will never be able to repay her in this lifetime. But that’s alright—he never expected to repay her.
His hand then slides down the screen, tracing the outline of Anran's chest, where their child’s small head rests. The fuzzy little head presses against her chest, and Zhan Lian’s heart breaks. Two streams of tears slide down his face as a faint smile touches his lips. This is his daughter.
Meanwhile, outside the community, Anran drives to a gas station. She grips the steering wheel tightly. Ahead, she sees Yun Tao’s car stopped in front of her, with a string of zombies trailing behind. Anran pulls her car to the side at the gas station and sits in the driver’s seat, glancing back at the zombies behind her and then at Yun Tao’s car in front, a hint of worry in her eyes.
This gas station is located on the street next to Anran’s community, but it’s at the far end. Most of the zombies in the area have been lured to the community gate by He Meimei. The number of zombies at the gas station is relatively low.
However, with Anran’s arrival, many zombies have followed her car, though not as many as those near the community gate. If they are patient and careful not to make too much noise, they should be able to avoid a large-scale zombie siege.
Yun Tao opens his door and gets out of the car. He raises his hand and yanks a zombie off the roof of his car. As the zombie hits the ground, Yun Tao immediately raises his knife and finishes it off before turning around to face the group of men emerging from the gas station.
Yun Tao silently observes them. He notices one or two pale, emaciated women among the group. They aren’t wearing pants, and their bare legs are covered in blood.
Yun Tao understands immediately: this group is not to be trifled with. He sneers.
The man with a green dragon tattoo on his arm, clearly the leader, raises his hand and speaks in a polite tone. "Brother, we’re just passing by. We need some fuel, and then we’ll leave."
"You’re just passing by, but you’ve attracted all these zombies here, and now you expect us to clean up your mess?" Yun Tao’s voice turns harsh.
The man with the green dragon tattoo scowls, swinging a baseball bat menacingly in the air. He points at the car behind Yun Tao and orders, "Go deal with the zombies behind us, and the woman in the car—get her out. Hurry up, the zombies are coming."
