What Anran says is true. Her family has never been well-off. Before she marries Zhan Lian, she lives in a staff dormitory, a small room with four iron beds. The conditions are difficult—crowded and often infested with rats. Sometimes, while Anran sleeps at night, rats crawl onto her bed and gnaw on her fingers. Despite taking protective measures like mouse traps, rat poison, and sticky boards, the rats persist. They even manage to get in through the holes in the optical cable network.
So Anran knows firsthand that rats are everywhere. She can't stay in this community any longer. As for where to go next, all she can do is hope there won’t be as many rats.
Yun Tao nods and says, "Your car is good. The kids will go in your car, and all the baby supplies are already packed in. I'll drive a separate logistics truck up front. Let’s head out first, and we’ll figure things out when we reach the gas station."
With that, Liu Yuan doesn’t argue anymore. Yun Tao has decided they’re leaving, and there’s no changing his mind.
Anran agrees to leave together. She immediately takes Liu Yuan's hand, and the two of them head back to pack their things and get the children ready.
After leaving the security room, the remaining three survivors, including Xiao Mei’s husband, anxiously approach Yun Tao, who is following Anran.
"What about us? What should we do? Captain, you can't just ignore us."
"If you want to live, drive your own car and follow me," Yun Tao replies, pushing them aside. He then turns toward the security room and heads upstairs to gather the supplies he’s prepared in recent days.
This community, being a middle- and high-end area, has more than one decent car. Yun Tao has already picked out a Hummer and has been planning to load it with supplies. Honestly, Yun Tao doesn’t care much for the survivors behind him. To put it bluntly, he sees everyone in the community as a burden. If he’s going to save anyone, it will only be Hengheng and Doll. The others will be left to fate.
Anran doesn’t have much to pack. She gathers her personal belongings into her backpack. Most of Doll’s diapers and clothes are already in her ex-husband’s car. All she has to do is move the diapers and clothes from home into the car.
She rushes back home with Doll in her arms. She packs a few sets of her underwear, a pack of sanitary napkins, and her ID card and household registration book into her backpack and suitcase. As she rifles through the bedside table, she finds pregnancy notes, the property certificate, and her divorce agreement with Zhan Lian. After a moment's thought, she decides against taking them—they would only weigh her down.
Next, she grabs a few clothes and tosses them into the suitcase. Then, after a pause, she retrieves the bag of crystal cores from the bottom of her backpack. She places the two mouse crystal cores and the zombie crystal cores together, tucking them back into the bottom of the bag.
She then enters Doll's room, grabs a pink snow mountain to pin on Doll’s sling, and ties Doll to her chest. With a heavy backpack on her back, two suitcases in hand, and a military knife at her waist, she rushes out the door.
When she arrives at the basement, Liu Yuan and Hengheng are already waiting by her car, their own backpacks and suitcases ready.
