Chapter 141: She Has No Right to Complain
Sure enough, when Anran pushes the stroller to the gate, the five survivors have already scattered to hide. Yun Tao has released a group of zombies onto the now-clear ground. Anran hurriedly pushes the stroller into the corridor and closes the glass door behind her. As long as Doll isn’t crying, she takes her ex-husband's military knife and begins stabbing the heads of the scattered zombies.
Her mind, however, is still preoccupied with Yun Tao's earlier actions, particularly when he stabbed at her with the knife. She tries to match his speed and posture, holding the knife as he did. After taking down a zombie, she jumps forward, not thinking, and stabs the next one. She uses all her strength in her wrist and waist with each thrust.
After killing 20 zombies, Doll wakes up. The little one, lying in the stroller, starts to cry. Anran decides to call it a day, glancing at Yun Tao, who is still releasing zombies into the community. She quickly runs back to take care of Doll.
She pushes the stroller back to the house. After feeding Doll, Anran grabs a quick bite herself. She then places Doll in the stroller again and goes downstairs. An hour passes, and Yun Tao is still downstairs, killing zombies. The ground near the gate is covered with the bodies of the undead.
Anran doesn’t say anything. She notices Doll seems to be lying quietly in the stroller, so she whispers softly to her:
“Good baby, don’t make a fuss. Mommy is going to kill zombies. If you need to pee or poop, call me.”
Doll doesn’t seem to hear her. She’s fixated on a black-and-white pattern on the roof of the car. Anran follows her gaze and sees that the pattern is the logo of a baby stroller. There’s nothing particularly interesting about it, so Anran wonders why Doll is so absorbed in it.
Regardless, Doll staying quiet is a good sign for Anran. It means she can kill more zombies without interruption. But Doll, only a little over a month old, can’t stay focused on something for long, no matter how interesting it is.
So, when Doll starts fussing, Anran has to stop what she’s doing, rush to the stroller, and tend to all of Doll’s needs—whether it’s peeing, pooping, or hunger—so that the crying doesn’t attract zombies.
The day passes in a blur, from dawn to dusk, filled with Doll’s crying and Anran's relentless killing.
After taking care of Doll once more, Anran waits for darkness to fall. She takes the elevator down and steps into the quiet corridor. As she pushes the stroller out of the building, she sees Yun Tao sitting under the dim yellow streetlights, smoking. His clothes are still covered in blood. When he sees Anran walk out of the building, he flicks the cigarette away and speaks:
“Come to the security room tomorrow morning.”
Without waiting for her response, he steps over the zombies scattered on the ground and walks away.
Yun Tao still doesn’t take the diamonds from the zombies’ brains. It seems he has no interest in anything other than killing zombies and teasing Hengheng. The diamonds are left for Anran to collect.
Yun Tao has killed a lot of zombies today. From morning until night, the bodies pile up at the gate in layers. Anran has picked up the ones he has missed, killing even more zombies. Based on Yun Tao’s expression, the diamonds from these zombies are hers alone.
And she is a burden. She has no right to complain!
