Chapter 139: You Come to Kill Me
Chapter 139: You Come to Kill Me
The murky water can’t be drunk, but it’s good enough for some basic cleaning. At least Anran feels that after killing zombies, her body is covered in blood—blood from the zombies, but still not very clean. Wiping herself down with the dim water helps her feel a little more at ease.
Yun Tao doesn’t take any diamonds from the zombies they kill today and lets Anran collect them all. In her large backpack, there is a plastic bag filled with diamonds from the zombies she killed in the hospital before. Anran washes the diamonds with the dim water today, putting them with the ones from the hospital and pressing them at the bottom of the bag.
After everything is done, Anran yawns and goes to bed with Doll in the nursery. The next morning, she wakes up to the sweet scent of flowers in the nursery, holds the humming baby in her arms to feed her milk, and eats a bag of biscuits herself. She then ties the sling, wraps Doll, and heads out toward the security room.
Downstairs, near the gate, the five survivors are hauling zombie corpses. They all look pale. When they see Anran coming from the corridor, they don’t greet her, clearly still recovering from whatever scolding they got from Yun Tao while cleaning up the battlefield.
At the door of the security room, Yun Tao has already cleaned himself up. Like Anran, he probably uses dim water to wash the blood off his body. He stands outside the security room waiting for her. At this moment, Yun Tao wears a set of black special security uniforms. The sunlight makes the white streaks in his sideburns stand out, and his face appears even more worn.
Behind him, Liu Yuan is gathering dim water and sharpening the dog-leg knife she used to kill zombies the day before. Hengheng sits beside her, watching Anran warily.
When Yun Tao sees Anran holding Doll, he turns back to the security room, retrieves a high-view baby stroller from somewhere, and begins pushing it toward her. He waves for Anran to follow him to the square.
The square isn’t large, but it isn’t small either. It has a fountain in the center and a teahouse on one side. Yun Tao finds a shaded spot and places the stroller there. Turning to Anran, he says, “Put Doll in here.”
Anran, holding Doll, eyes Yun Tao suspiciously. She doesn’t understand what he’s up to. Yun Tao looks back at her with a resolute expression in his eyes and adds, “If I want to do something to Doll, you won’t be able to stop me.”
This is the truth. Anran is in no condition to resist Yun Tao. All she can do is risk her life, but she doesn’t believe Yun Tao would hurt Doll. So, reluctantly, she places Doll in the stroller, gently touching Doll’s sleeping face before turning around to look at Yun Tao, who stands behind her. With a furrowed brow, she asks, “What are you going to do?”
Yun Tao steps back a few paces and waves at her. “Come on. Pretend I’m a zombie. Come and kill me!”
“Why?” Anran’s eyes widen. She can’t bring herself to kill Yun Tao, so she doesn’t move.
Yun Tao’s face grows more impatient, and with a burst of energy, he shouts, “Hurry up! I need to go kill zombies at the gate later! Come on, kill me!”
