The Overconfident Basketball Team
“Master! Quick, look—the guys from the Sports Hall are charging out again!”
Xiao Yi had just stepped out of the Dark Castle when Li Wan Ning hurried up to him, pointing toward the distant Sports Hall.
Xiao Yi climbed onto the walls and gazed far off in that direction.
Sure enough, Shen Jiabin and three other basketball team guys were fully geared up with baseball bats, launching another assault.
Shen Jiabin and Zhuang Qiang had their bodies wrapped in crushed plastic bottles as makeshift armor.
Baseball caps perched on their heads.
They heroically led the charge.
The two guys behind them swung their bats relentlessly, providing cover.
Meanwhile, Tang Jingyan and another girl stood on the rooftop, watching tensely as the four men plunged into the fray.
Xiao Yi had already cleared the zombies from the third-floor corridor of the Sports Hall once, so there weren't many left.
The four quickly carved their way down to the second floor without a hitch.
“Kill!!”
“Roar!! Come get some from your grandpa!”
As zombies gathered on the second floor, the bloodthirsty Shen Jiabin and Zhuang Qiang let out excited roars.
“Kill!!” The other two guys bellowed too, psyching up the team.
Their fight hadn't been too noisy at first—just enough to lure the corridor zombies.
But those shouts drew the horde from the first floor and the plaza.
“Whoa! Brother Bin is awesome!”
“Go for it!!”
The girl watching the charge alongside Tang Jingyan shouted excitedly too.
Tang Jingyan yelled a cheer as well, hoping to lend her support.
But their racket was drawing more and more zombies toward the four.
“Idiots.” Xiao Yi spat coldly, knowing they were done for.
Even with his overwhelming combat prowess, he wouldn't dare taunt so many zombies like that.
He always fought fast and smart—striking quick, dodging as he went.
But these morons were roaring to attract more? Pure suicide.
With a thought, one of the three-eyed crows perched atop the Dark Castle surveying the area flapped toward the Sports Hall.
Shen Jiabin and his crew, lost in their desperate brawl, didn't notice the massive zombie wave closing in.
Among them slunk several freakish black zombies, monkey-like and darting through the pack at blinding speed.
“I told you guys! These zombies are brainless trash! If a level-10 cripple like that loser can do it, there's no way we can't!”
Having broken through from the third floor to the second, Shen Jiabin's confidence exploded.
He recalled Xiao Yi weaving effortlessly through zombie hordes and sneered—these things were nothing.
“Brother Bin! I know there's a small storeroom in the second-floor gym with tons of protein powder. If we grab that, it'll tide us over for three or four days at least!” Gu Fanghua shouted excitedly from behind, pointing to the nearby gym.
It was just a dozen meters away, and the path was mostly clear of zombies.
Shen Jiabin scoffed. “Protein powder? That shit tastes like ass—what do we need it for? With our strength, we can hit the martial arts room on the first floor for real weapons! Once we've got those, who cares about food?”
His ego was through the roof now. Food? Screw it—he wanted a proper weapon.
With one, he could rally the team, hunt down Xiao Yi, and get revenge!
He knew that freakish shelter of Xiao Yi's was stocked to the gills.
Armed up, the four of them could slaughter him, seize the base!
“Raaah!!!” Shen Jiabin roared again, ignoring the warnings behind him, and charged the zombies with heroic swings of his bat.
“Brothers! Show your balls—your manly dominance! With courage and unity, heart and soul, we're kings of this apocalypse!”
Shen Jiabin smashed two zombie skulls in a row, pumping his fist. “Zombies ain't shit—it's the fear in our hearts that's scary! Brothers! Follow me—Dream Team wins!!”
“Roar!! Dream Team wins!!”
Shen Jiabin had a knack for leadership—his hype speech brimmed with fire. The other three guys surged with courage, howling at the top of their lungs, morale hitting peak.
But in the next instant, a short, pitch-black freak zombie burst from the first-floor stairwell, lunging at blinding speed to sink its teeth into Shen Jiabin's neck.
His rallying cry still echoed as he died in its jaws.
Shen Jiabin's eyes bulged wide, brimming with disbelieving rage.
