Upgrading the City of Sin
Watching Xiao Yi carry Lin Man Cha farther and farther away on his back, Shen Jia Bin finally couldn't hold back the humiliation and rage boiling inside him. He slammed his fist into the railing with a vicious snarl, his face twisting in fury. "That bastard! Fuck! That goddamn loser actually dared to hit me! I'm gonna kill him!"
"He has a blade... We're no match for him..." Gu Fang Hua tossed her baseball bat to the ground, her head hanging low in defeat.
"Then we'll go out and find a blade! Once we get our hands on some decent weapons, we'll storm his shelter and make him pay!"
Shen Jia Bin's eyes burned red as he lifted his head, glaring daggers at Xiao Yi's retreating figure. "Even a level-ten cripple can pull that off—how could we not? We're just lacking his guts! If we want to survive in this apocalypse, we gotta man up and show some real courage!"
Gripping his baseball bat tight, Shen Jia Bin growled, "That monster's already been taken out by that loser. This is our chance to head down, grab some supplies! Once I get my hands on a weapon, I'll cripple that piece of shit myself and make him kneel and beg for mercy!"
Even now, Shen Jia Bin was dead certain that Xiao Yi's combat prowess came entirely from that long-handled machete.
In his mind, if he had a blade like that, he could slaughter zombies just as easily!
"Our food's running out. If we don't go scavenge soon, we'll starve to death up here."
Tang Jing Yan rallied the other three guys. "That guy's not all that special. Aside from his chopper, his physical stats might not even match yours. And yet he weaves through zombie hordes like it's nothing. If you guys muster some courage and work together, I bet you'd outfight him easy!"
Back in the City of Sin, Xiao Yi had no idea that effortlessly slaying the hulking zombie had filled the rooftop survivors with overconfidence.
Right now, all he cared about was how many attribute points he'd get from burying this special zombie corpse.
He handed Lin Man Cha off to Li Wan Ning and the others, then pulled the hulking zombie's body from his Space Bag. He picked a freshly emptied Tomb and chucked the corpse in.
But something weird happened—the body bounced back out like a rubber ball.
It slammed heavily onto the ground, startling the three women nearby who were giving Lin Man Cha a crash course in politics. They let out sharp cries.
Lin Man Cha practically leaped out of her skin.
Xiao Yi stared at the corpse in stunned silence for a moment, then turned to the tombstone.
C-grade zombie corpse cannot be buried. Please upgrade the Tomb...
"C-grade zombie?"
Stepping forward, Xiao Yi hauled up the hulking corpse, frowning as he inspected it closely. He muttered to himself, "So this thing was a higher-level zombie? Do zombies have ranks or something?"
Only now did Xiao Yi start noticing the differences in this hulking zombie.
It stood about two meters tall and weighed over three hundred pounds. Beyond its massive build, its skin had hardened like armor—far tougher than a regular zombie's defenses.
And one more thing: a tiny black tentacle had sprouted from its head.
After studying it a bit longer, Xiao Yi grew even more convinced—these zombies could definitely evolve!
Though he had no clue what triggered it.
Yes! Zombies can evolve too. Most zombies so far are the lowest D-grade. Evolved ones are rare and usually just C-grade. Above C-grade come B-grade, A-grade, S-grade, and SR-grade. Based on time since the apocalypse began, A-grade and higher won't appear yet.
For ordinary people, zombie evolution was bad news. But for Xiao Yi? Music to his ears.
He needed more evolved zombie corpses to boost his stats.
"Upgrade the Tomb!"
Sorry! Tomb cannot be upgraded yet. Please raise City of Sin to Intermediate level first...
What the hell? He even had to level up the whole City of Sin?!
Xiao Yi was speechless.
"Fine, upgrade the City of Sin first!"
Upgrading City of Sin to Intermediate requires 300 End Coins. Unlocks more buildings and allows upgrades to existing ones. Confirm upgrade?
[Upgrade Now][Let Me Think]
"300 End Coins? That's steep!"
Xiao Yi grumbled inwardly. A single Tomb only cost 20, and now upgrading the city took 300?
Half his hard-earned 500 End Coins—gone in a flash!
It stung.
"Upgrade now!"
Pain or not, he had to do it.
A deafening rumble shook the City of Sin violently. A blinding flash erupted, and the walls expanded twofold in an instant, engulfing the entire sports field.
City of Sin successfully upgraded to Intermediate. Congratulations, host—new buildings unlocked.
Right after the electronic chime, a long list of text scrolled before Xiao Yi's eyes. A slew of new buildings popped up on the buildable panel.
