What Do You Think You're Doing?
"He wouldn't be here to join us, would he? Looks like he's living pretty damn comfortably in that freakish city of his."
Lin Man Cha said dismissively, "I saw him rescue a few people before. He's probably here to save us this time."
"If he's really here to save us, should we go with him to that weird city?"
The girl who'd first spotted Xiao Yi asked timidly, "He seems really strong. Following him might give us a better shot at surviving."
"Have us join him? In his dreams! Unless he's willing to join us and follow my orders!" Shen Jiabin declared arrogantly.
Submitting to some loser he looked down on? Might as well ask his proud ass to drop dead. In his eyes, only someone as noble and perfect as him deserved to be the leader!
Only he could lead others!
No one could lead him!
Meanwhile, Xiao Yi had arrived outside the sports hall.
As for what Shen Jiabin and the others were guessing about his intentions? Total bullshit to Xiao Yi.
He couldn't care less whether the rooftop survivors lived or died. The only reason he'd come to the sports hall was to hunt down a few mutated zombies!
That was it.
Xiao Yi found a high vantage point outside the sports hall, took a short break, and scanned his surroundings. The building was about nine meters tall—a simple rectangular structure.
Before the apocalypse, Xiao Yi had been here a few times and knew the basic layout.
That hulking mutated zombie he'd spotted last time had last appeared on the third-floor passageway leading to the rooftop balcony.
Barring any surprises, it should still be lurking there on the third floor.
Xiao Yi had no idea if there were other special zombies inside, but his top priority was that brute.
Of course, stumbling across a few more specials along the way would be a bonus.
After chugging some water and resting briefly, Xiao Yi shouldered his Sin Blade again and crept cautiously toward the sports hall entrance.
It was high noon now. The open plaza outside held only a handful of zombies, and even those were sluggish under the blazing sun. Xiao Yi dispatched them effortlessly and reached a wall lined with drain pipes.
Slinging the Sin Blade onto his back, he started climbing the pipes.
"Hey! Kid! What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Xiao Yi was halfway up when several heads poked over the rooftop edge, eyeing him warily.
It was Shen Jiabin, Tang Jingyan, and the others who'd been watching him from above.
Xiao Yi glanced up at them stone-faced and kept climbing, ignoring them completely.
There was no such thing as love or hate without reason in this world.
Xiao Yi saw himself as a villain, sure—but he wasn't some psycho who slaughtered innocents for kicks.
As long as these idiots didn't piss him off, he couldn't be bothered with them.
"Hey! Kid! I'm talking to you! You deaf or what?" Shen Jiabin snapped irritably. "You're not welcome here! Climb one more inch, and don't blame us for getting rough!"
To emphasize, Shen Jiabin swung his baseball bat a few times from the rooftop.
"If you wanna join up with us, you can—just hand over your food and water first, and we'll let you in!" Gu Fanghua added smugly from the side.
The two had cooked up a plan: one to threaten, the other to tempt. Just like their basketball team days, they'd use that kingly swagger to make Xiao Yi their bitch.
Xiao Yi looked up again, his gaze ice-cold, then scaled the rest in a blur—reaching the third-floor corridor ledge before leaping onto it.
Seeing Xiao Yi's bizarre move left Shen Jiabin and the rest utterly baffled.
They'd prepped for negotiations, but Xiao Yi blew them off entirely—and now he'd vaulted straight into the zombie-infested third-floor corridor!
What the fuck was this guy up to?
"Look! He's killing zombies!"
"He's gotta be here to save us! Clearing out the ones below so he can take us to his city!"
Tang Jingyan leaned over the edge, peering down at the third-floor corridor and shrieking to the group.
"He's showing off his skills in front of us—wants more leverage when he joins up!"
Shen Jiabin said smugly, "Won't work. To join us, he follows my orders! Only I can lead us through the apocalypse!"
"But he's got a blade! And the way he fights zombies... he's strong. We might not take him."
Zhuang Qiang narrowed his eyes coldly. "Maybe he's not here to save us. Maybe he wants something from us."
