Is He Here to Save Us?
“Zhuang Qiang!” Shen Jiabin scowled darkly, his brows furrowed as he barked in a low voice, “Sit your ass down! We’re discussing our next plan right now! Our food’s running out soon—this isn’t the time for you to be chasing skirts!”
Though Shen Jiabin’s words seemed to defend Lin Man Cha, they carried a hidden implication that everyone present caught.
No one there was stupid. On the contrary, they were all elites from Jiang City University. Shen Jiabin’s meaning was crystal clear to all.
If they found food, Shen Jiabin probably wouldn’t stop Zhuang Qiang from forcing himself on Lin Man Cha.
“Yeah, Zhuang Qiang, you’re going too far!” Another handsome guy in a basketball jersey chimed in to reprimand him. “Also, next time you talk to Jingyan, watch your damn attitude!”
This guy was named Gu Fanghua. Everyone knew he’d been relentlessly pursuing Tang Jingyan—a total simp through and through.
Whenever it came to Tang Jingyan, he was the first to jump in and defend her, no matter what she said. He’d kneel and lick her boots unconditionally.
Tang Jingyan dared to speak to Zhuang Qiang like that precisely because she had Shen Jiabin and Gu Fanghua watching her back.
Shen Jiabin was Tang Jingyan’s cousin, a fact the basketball team all knew well, so the other two guys never made a move on her.
Zhuang Qiang’s cheek twitched. Grudgingly, he sat back down on the ground, shooting Gu Fanghua a cold glare but saying nothing more.
It was clear Zhuang Qiang had some reservations about Shen Jiabin.
The center of this spat—Lin Man Cha—hugged her knees tightly, her eyes brimming with despair and turmoil for the future. Her hands kept tugging anxiously at her dance skirt.
The interruption cast a heavy pall over the mood. Everyone fell into an awkward silence.
Just then, the girl in yoga pants who hadn’t joined the discussion stood up abruptly, pointing into the distance with an excited shriek. “Guys, look! That weirdo’s running straight toward us!”
From her angle, she had a perfect view of Xiao Yi sprinting at full speed.
Xiao Yi moved like lightning. Ordinary zombies couldn’t even touch him before he dodged past. Even if one blocked his path, he cleaved it in two with a single decisive stroke of his blade.
Hearing her scream, the others jumped up in surprise and looked in the direction she pointed.
“Who the hell is this guy? Never seen him before. Is he a student here?”
Tang Jingyan gazed at Xiao Yi’s agile figure, curiosity piqued. “If there was someone this badass at school before, we’d have known about him ages ago! If he joined our group, our chances of surviving this apocalypse would skyrocket!”
“Hmph! What’s so impressive? He’s just got big balls, that’s all! I remember this loser tried signing up for our basketball team once. Big Bro Bin kicked his ass out, and he nearly became a laughingstock. A useless level-10 cripple—what’s so great about him?” Gu Fanghua peered through binoculars, sneering arrogantly, though his words dripped with sour jealousy.
“At least he’s got the guts to charge out there! Yesterday I saw him rescue a girl and take her into that weird city!” Lin Man Cha said admiringly. “That’s a real man!”
Lin Man Cha shot a fearful glance at Zhuang Qiang. She’d said it deliberately for his ears.
“Hmph! A real man? Hahaha!” Zhuang Qiang burst into mocking laughter. “This punk better not fall into my hands. Next time I see him, I’ll beat him like a dog!”
“Hmph! If I had a blade like that, I’d slaughter these dumb zombies by the horde!”
Shen Jiabin stared hungrily at the long-handled machete in Xiao Yi’s grip that sliced through iron like butter, envy burning in his eyes. “Even a level-10 cripple loser like him can weave through zombie swarms freely. We should have it even easier!”
“He’s getting closer! He’s heading right for us!” Tang Jingyan cried in shock. “What’s he want? Is he here to save us?”
By now, everyone saw the formidable man wielding his machete, barreling toward the sports hall at breakneck speed. The distance shrank rapidly.
“Hmph! Save us?” Shen Jiabin sneered, still bitter about how they’d begged Xiao Yi for help earlier and he’d ignored them completely. “Do we need saving from a level-10 cripple like him? Nah, this loser must’ve gotten kicked out of wherever he was and is coming to beg us for shelter!”
