Chapter 119
Chapter 119
Civil Servant Hunter’s S-class Resignation Log – Chapter 119
Se-ra thought to herself.
Monic Libery. What sin had trapped this healer at the center of their raid party?
Gluttony seemed to fit her well enough, but there was Julian, who suited it even better, so she passed on that. Jealousy? Anyone who needed to know was already aware that Garcia was itching for a rematch after getting beaten by Julian and Ali. If it wasn't wrath, then it had to be jealousy.
That left sloth and gluttony.
Se-ra knew next to nothing about Monic or Ali. But one thing she was certain of: Ali was as far from sloth as you could get.
Ali Russo, the leader of the mercenary corps, had Athena, the Greek goddess of war, as her contractor. Would a contractor of a goddess who embodied justice and protection really succumb to sloth? Especially as the leader of a mercenary group operating on a global stage?
No way. Even Yun Jae-hun, the head of the Asian branch, barely had time to set foot in Korea because the mercenaries were constantly buzzing around the world.
So the one trapped in the sin of sloth had to be Monic Libery. While everyone's attention was fixed on gluttony, Se-ra targeted only sloth.
Staring at the deep navy crown gleaming before her eyes, Se-ra grinned.
"To perfectly deceive your enemies, you first have to deceive your allies. Words of wisdom aren't just empty sayings."
She grabbed the crown and unleashed a barrage from her gun. With a clear clang! like shattering glass, the crown crumbled to dust.
Kieeeeeek!
Bingo. Se-ra leaped down from the head of blue hair thrashing wildly. She'd considered chopping off one more head even if it meant pushing herself, but the others were swarming in, making it hard to hold out.
Besides, she wasn't alone anymoreshe didn't have to handle everything herself.
"Ja-rim! Smash it!"
Ja-rim's scythe glowed with a reddish gold light. The immense power of the one who had once led a planet to ruin poured down onto the dragon's head. Scales split open, and blood sprayed upward.
Damn you! How dare you!
Fatigue washed over the hunters' bodies, but vitality surged through them once more. Ja-rim unleashed even stronger mana at the half-severed neck.
Squelch, squelch! Along with lava-like red liquid, the glaring head tumbled downward.
Se-ra beamed at the message that appeared with the falling head. Everything had gone exactly as she'd predicted.
You filthy pests!
Se-ra wrapped the severed head in a cube and pulled it toward her, then grabbed Ja-rim's hand as she fell alongside it.
The dragon's tail, capable of knocking stars from the sky, whipped toward the two of them. But Se-ra wasn't scared. She'd seen that attack pattern too many times already.
"Spear versus shield. Wonder which one will win."
Se-ra stuck out her tongue and swung the dead head to block the incoming tail. A fierce whoosh was followed by crackling shocks rippling through her.
Kieeeeeek! Aaaah!
"Oh, you two sound just alike?"
The already-dead head and the tail were both more than halfway smashed. Se-ra cackled as she easily shattered the attack, then reached toward the sky.
"Yoon Se-ra!"
Kang Se-jun appeared right on cue, grabbing Se-ra's and Ja-rim's arms like the protagonist in a drama. The three landed safely on the ground.
"What the hell were you thinking, pulling a stunt like that?!"
Se-ra plugged her ears against the machine-gun barrage of nagging.
"Ah, but thanks to me, we freed two at once. I didn't cut off the head, though. It felt like it might actually kill them if I did."
"You call that okay?!"
"You were worried I'd get hurt? Aww. I'm fine, so calm down. Got it?"
Se-ra patted Kang Se-jun's back. His face flushed beet red at her attitude, like she was soothing a child.
"You! That's! Kid...! I...! Damn it, I...!"
Stuttering like that, he must have been really shocked. Good. This should end the lecture.
Se-ra quickly slipped away from Kang Se-jun and rushed to Monic and Ali, who were stirring groggily from the cube Elizabeth was guarding.
Left behind, Ja-rim laughed kuhaha! and slapped Kang Se-jun's back.
A belated wave of self-loathing hit Kang Se-jun. He buried his flushed face in his hands. He was going crazy. His heart was pounding again, just like when she'd been in his arms.
"You're awake? Any discomfort anywhere?"
Oblivious to it all, Se-ra checked on Monic and Ali. Fortunately, they just looked a bit irritatedtheir conditions were pretty good.
"What? You two are already up?"
Ali scanned her, Kang Se-jun and Ja-rim standing behind, and Oliver.
"Oliver and I weren't affected. Oliver's contracted with an angel, so he can't be judged by sins, and I was protected by my contractor's blessing."
"Looks like they caught the ones who slipped through the cracks. Ah, I'm gonna die. Ha... What a happy nightmare. So much delicious food..."
A hint of gloom lingered on her grumbling face. She seemed regretful about being dragged out before eating it all. Wait, the regressor and returnee had nightmares, but this one was happily gorging herself?
'Is the point to keep them from escaping the dream?'
If so, then maybe the curse of lust was...? She had zero desire to experience it, but she was a tiny bit curious.
"Julian and Garcia still haven't woken up. Monic, hurry and heal Oliver. If the angelic army retreats, it'll be bad for us."
"Angelic army? What the... H-huh?!"
Monic, still dazed from her lazy nap in the nightmare, gasped at the battlefield unfolding in the distance. Ali was equally stunned.
"What the hell is that?"
"Angels versus dragons... They've summoned mythology."
"It's Oliver's skill. But since it's summoned with mana, it'll vanish once his power runs out. If he recovers his mana, we can take down one more head, so please hurry."
Grasping the gravity of the situation, Monic slapped her own cheeks and dashed to Oliver. As expected of a healerher mental fortitude was on another level.
"You okay?"
Ali eyed Se-ra. Her tattered combat suit and body covered in grime vividly showed the brutal fight she'd endured.
"Your brother would faint if he saw you."
Yun Jae-hun was probably out there right now, praying for her safe return. Se-ra shrugged.
"He'd be proud. 'My little sister's so capable, cool, and strong.'"
Ali snorted loudly at Se-ra's nonchalance.
But the warmth in her eyes was the same as when she looked at Jae-hun. Ali had sworn never to forget the grace of having her life saved.
"Athena doesn't get along with snakes. Join us soon, Captain. Michael's handling pride's head, so once we smash jealousys crown, Garcia will wake up too."
"Wouldn't miss him even if he was gone. Just toss him."
She wasn't wrong, but Se-ra couldn't quite agree, so she just cleared her throat awkwardly.
Kyaaaaaaa!
At that moment, the apocalyptic dragon let out a massive roar. Crimson blood and scorching flames that could burn everything painted the sky. As Oliver's mana recovered from Monic's heal, Michael swiftly took down the red head.
Now only four heads remained. Once Garcia was freed, even if the angelic army retreated, they could win with their own strength.
'I need to join in too.'
She couldn't just wait around if she wanted her name etched as the top contributor. The moment she gripped her gun to rejoin
"Where do you think you're going in that state?"
Monic, back before she knew it, grabbed Se-ra's shoulder. An enormous surge of mana poured into her through the contact. Se-ra's eyes widened as her health and mana recovered in an instant.
"Whoa. Monic, your heals are no joke."
"You think I got L-rank healer for nothing?"
"Sure you're not Zombie-nic?"
"Shut it, Ali. And Headbang, thanks. You let me get my revenge."
Even her thanks were so her. Se-ra nodded.
"Now that I'm in, don't worryjust kill 'em all. Wounds? I'll heal everything. As long as you're in my reach, no one's dying on my watch."
'Whoa. That's badass.'
Her confident stance made Se-ra's heart race involuntarily.
"Then I'll leave it to you."
"Go on. I've got you covered."
Garcia? Someone would save him eventually. So Se-ra focused solely on the green head. She'd make that vile thing pay for accusing her of lust.
You! If it weren't for you!
The dragon, having lost nearly half its heads and gone berserk, spotted Se-ra charging in.
Its tail whipped toward her again. It was ragged from the earlier clash with the dragon head, but still plenty threatening. This time, though, she had no head to use as a shield.
"Yoon Se-ra! Get back!"
Kang Se-jun, hurling spears of fire at the dragon's neck from above, shouted anxiously.
"Hey, focus on your enemies. The raid party's back is covered by this healer."
Blocking him was a clank of pure white chains emerging. Several blade-tipped chains burst from Monic's body.
True to its name, the holy-looking chains clamped down on the incoming tail.
You think that can stop me...!
"Here's a question. These chains are infused with my mana, so just touching them heals wounds and restores health."
Monic cut off the dragon's cry. Sure enough, the tattered tail was regenerating in seconds.
'Wait, what is she doing?'
Se-ra, who had just managed to wreck the tail, was stunned. But Monic wasn't done.
"So what happens if I keep healing an already healed wound? If I force cells to regenerate beyond normal limits?"
Ugh, uuuugh! You! What are you...!
The freshly healed tail suddenly trembled violently, then began necrotizing on the spot. The dragon writhed in agony, but the chains binding its tail didn't budge.
"Force regeneration past its limits, and anything breaks. Even too much healing isn't good."
Kraaaaa!
Monic swung the chains hard, and the tail snapped off. The dragon thrashed even harder than when its head was severed.
It made sense. Heads were individual, but the tail was shared. The remaining four heads took the damage head-on.
"Whoa, that's scary as hell..."
Seeing the tail not just necrotize but melt away, Se-ra shuddered.
In the world... Healing cells to death? What kind of terrifying healer was this? She'd met plenty of healers during her civil servant days, but this was the first time she'd seen anything like it.
