Chapter 49: True Promise Star
The planets had all been enslaved, and needless to say, the army must have been entirely wiped out. Lan Xiaobu immediately said, "Kunlun, send a message. I'm Lan Xiaobu, also from Blue Asia Star, belonging to the Peacekeeping Army. I'm currently looking to head to True Promise Star, but I'm uncertain about the attitude of True Promise Star. I've been hesitating whether to return and check or continue to True Promise Star."
Lan Xiaobu was sure that the other party had never heard of the Peacekeeping Army, but that didn't matter. Since Blue Asia Star had been enslaved, nobody would come to verify whether the Peacekeeping Army existed or not. If verification was needed, he would say it was a private organization formed to resist Flying Jade Star.
Ke'er clearly didn't consider whether Lan Xiaobu was from Blue Asia Star; he immediately transmitted, "You must not return to Blue Asia Star. Once you go back, you will be enslaved or even killed. Let's go to True Promise Star together. You lock onto my flying saucer and follow me. I have acquaintances on True Promise Star; we should head there first."
It seemed Ke'er was a rather open-minded person and had little suspicion.
Lan Xiaobu naturally had no hesitation and directly had Kunlun lock onto Ke'er’s flying saucer before following him to True Promise Star.
Ke'er was evidently quite talkative, continuously recounting various situations regarding True Promise Star, including which individuals from Blue Asia Star had defected to True Promise Star.
Listening to Ke’er's endless chatter, Lan Xiaobu’s mind was occupied with thoughts of Lian’s power. Did this guy have fragments of memories that encompassed languages from various planets?
Even though Lan Xiaobu responded very little, Ke'er was still overflowing with words. Lan Xiaobu suspected that the reason for Ke'er's continuous talking was that he couldn’t leave his flying saucer; otherwise, would he have simply left his flying saucer to join him?
From Ke'er’s words, Lan Xiaobu learned that the largest empire on True Promise Star was the Hanlan Empire, ruled by Master Taijie. The most powerful military force within the Hanlan Empire was the Star Expedition Army, which took orders directly from Taijie. According to Ke'er, once they arrived at the Hanlan Empire, they must be sure to join the Star Expedition Army. Only by joining the Star Expedition Army could they have the chance to go farther.
Because of Ke’er's constant talking, Lan Xiaobu could not cultivate. He first disposed of Lian’s bones via the garbage compartment of the flying saucer into the void of space; keeping that thing in his flying saucer was always a disaster.
Having completed this task, Lan Xiaobu picked up the silver ring.
Lan Xiaobu intended to investigate what secrets this silver ring held. To his astonishment, what previously appeared to be an ordinary ring now revealed a layer of grayish substance within it.
In a split second, he grasped the situation because, after mastering the Soul Tempering Technique, he developed a sense of consciousness, which allowed him to feel the grayish matter in the ring.
However, merely sensing the gray layer wasn’t enough; he couldn’t see clearly what was inside the ring. Lan Xiaobu attempted to use the technique he previously employed to devour Lian’s soul to tear through this grayish substance. To his delight, it was like he opened a crack in a wall with just one action...
Lan Xiaobu immediately used his consciousness to erase the gray layer he had torn open, and naturally, a word appeared in his mind—refine.
Could this be refining? After learning the Soul Tempering Technique, was he truly capable of refining artifacts as stated in the legends? This was an immense joy for Lan Xiaobu. As for what constituted an artifact, this ring possessed space, undoubtedly making it a treasure.
Lan Xiaobu spent a full half month to refine the entire ring.
Perhaps due to Lan Xiaobu's prolonged silence, Ke'er also reduced the frequency of his chattering. In truth, even if Ke'er rambled on incessantly, Lan Xiaobu at that moment had no time to pay attention to him. Lan Xiaobu was currently delighting in his perception of the spatial dimensions of his ring; its space spanned over ten zhang in diameter. Not to mention, placing his Kunlun inside only occupied a quarter of the space.
What left him slightly disappointed was that the silver ring contained nothing at all. It was akin to discovering a wallet with nothing inside, but at least this wallet held some value.
It was very likely that Lian had never opened this ring, or perhaps, he couldn’t refine it. Although Lian had reached the second level of the Soul Tempering Technique, he surely wouldn't have torn his own soul to practice it like Lan Xiaobu did. Without tearing his own soul while practicing the Soul Tempering Technique, he couldn't produce consciousness perception. Without consciousness perception, naturally, he couldn't refine this spatial ring.
Lan Xiaobu tried a brief experiment; he easily placed a bottle of Vital Core Element Elixir into his hand, then effortlessly took it out again.
It seemed that only if he were to perish would another layer of gray matter appear in the ring. Regardless, even if a gray layer emerged, those without consciousness perception would never see what was inside the ring.
Lan Xiaobu placed several important items and a large portion of Vital Core Element Elixirs from his survival pod into the ring.
Finally, what he held in his hand was a wooden box; it felt slightly cool to the touch. He had received it from Cheng Jianjie. It had always been unopened before, but now that Lan Xiaobu had consciousness, he wanted to try and see if he could open it using his mind.
"Lan Xiaobu, we've arrived at True Promise Star. Slow down. I'm contacting True Promise Star. As long as they permit, you can follow behind me through the atmosphere to enter True Promise Star..." Ke'er's voice came through, prompting Lan Xiaobu to respond quickly and then tuck the wooden box away.
True Promise Star had apparently long received news of Blue Asia Star being invaded and enslaved. Soon after, both he and Ke'er received the signal allowing them to enter True Promise Star.
As the flying saucer traversed through True Promise Star, Lan Xiaobu saw a massive sphere of green and yellow—that was a planet not smaller than Earth. "Kunlun, collect data on True Promise Star without being detected," Lan Xiaobu quickly instructed.
"Understood, collecting True Promise Star's data now," came Kunlun's voice, while Lan Xiaobu observed streams of data flashing across the screen.
This was Kunlun’s way of informing him that the data collection was proceeding smoothly.
The flying saucer pierced through the atmosphere of True Promise Star and swiftly descended onto the surface under the guidance of the signal.
Twenty minutes later, the saucer landed on an immensely large docking bay. This bay was filled with over ten thousand various types of flying saucers, aircraft, and spaceships.
Based on the distribution information provided by Kunlun, Lan Xiaobu could discern that the area where Kunlun docked was on the outskirts. It was evident that as a fugitive from Blue Asia Star, his status on True Promise Star was very low.
Almost as soon as the flying saucer stabilized, Kunlun's voice relayed, "Data collection of True Promise Star is complete. Please instruct."
Lan Xiaobu was tempted to see if he could store Kunlun inside his ring, but he understood that if he truly did so, his death might be imminent.
"Kunlun, wait for me here. Once you receive my signal, head straight to my location. When leaving, ensure all signals and surveillance are blocked; we must not be discovered. Also, if you don’t receive my signal, and someone forces open the saucer, escape True Promise Star immediately," Lan Xiaobu emphasized repeatedly as he picked up Kunlun's communicator.
"Kunlun received," Kunlun responded.
Lan Xiaobu sighed in relief and pocketed the palm-sized communicator before walking towards the hatch.
Kunlun was a Level-5 civilization technological flying saucer, and True Promise Star was merely a Level-2 technological civilization planet; it shouldn't pose any threat to Kunlun.
Seeing Lan Xiaobu about to leave, Gu Dao quickly followed him, wanting to go out together. Lan Xiaobu patted Gu Dao's head, "You stay inside Kunlun and wait for me."
Gu Dao helplessly wagged his tail and could only return to his old spot to continue sleeping.
As Lan Xiaobu stepped out of the flying saucer, the first thing he saw was Ke'er. Immediately, he was struck by the refreshing air and the pure blue sky; he hadn't seen such a clear blue sky since he was born. If only Earth could become like this someday.
Ke'er had golden hair and was quite tall. His hair was messy, and around his neck hung a black chain, giving the impression that he was only in his twenties or thirties. The clothes he wore looked somewhat tattered, and there were scars on his face.
"Haha, Lan Xiaobu, you look worse than me, but escaping is a good thing. Let's go; we need to get to the recruitment office on True Promise Star. At the very least, we can get something to eat." Ke'er chuckled, seeming like an old friend, and gave Lan Xiaobu a friendly pat on the arm.
At the moment, Lan Xiaobu indeed looked very miserable; he was still barefoot, and his clothes were tattered. Though he had bathed several times on the flying saucer, with no spare clothes, he appeared even more disheveled than Ke'er.
When Ke'er mentioned getting a meal, his eyes sparkled. Lan Xiaobu could see from Keer's deep-set eyes and gaunt cheeks that this guy was indeed starving.
The Vital Core Element Elixir was a good thing, but not everyone could possess such items. Ke'er was merely a soldier from a primary technological civilization planet; one could say he probably had never even seen a Vital Core Element Elixir.
"Ke'er, why isn't anyone here to greet us?" Lan Xiaobu questioned, puzzled as he looked around; apart from various flying vehicles, there was truly no one coming to receive them.
Ke'er widened his eyes at Lan Xiaobu and after a long while said, "You don't think we're here to help someone, do you? We're here as refugees. If no one wants us when we arrive, after we’ve eaten, we'll have to leave."
"What if we don't leave?" Lan Xiaobu was confused. They had found a habitable planet; would they then leave and drift among the stars again?
Ke'er nodded, "If you give up your flying saucer, you can stay too. You could join some nation on True Promise Star and become an ordinary civilian. But if you refuse to part with your flying saucer, then you can only choose to leave True Promise Star. Let's go get something to eat first. I’ve been eating rations for a month; I'm about to throw up. If it goes on like this, I won’t even have rations to throw up on; luckily, I arrived safely at True Promise Star."
(Today’s update ends here; good night, friends!)
