Deep in the mountains lay a cave. Once the hideout of a notorious bandit gang, it was now being thoroughly dismantled by students in academy uniforms.
"Please—please, spare me...!"
"And how many people who said those same words have you killed?"
The bandit boss who had once believed himself invincible was on his knees before a noble young lady of clearly exalted blood. While he held her attention, one of his men took aim at the back of her head.
The boss never expected to walk out of this place alive. That being the case, he would at least take someone with him.
From a spot the young lady couldn't easily see, he flashed a hand signal—and a bullet left his underling's gun.
The shot carved a path through the air. At the crack of the gunshot the young lady spun around in haste, but it was already too late. Even an academy student could not dodge a bullet already mid-flight.
And yet—though surprise crossed her face, there was no panic in it, and no fear. If anything, her expression said, And what of it? A chill ran through the underling. Something was wrong.
Then the bullet mid-arc split cleanly in two, and that uneasy premonition became reality.
It happened in a single instant. From the young lady's shadow, a beautiful silver-haired girl stepped forth and sliced the bullet apart with a dagger.
At that overwhelming sight, underling and boss alike found themselves unable to speak.
Ahh... to hide in my lady's shadow, then appear at the moment of crisis and save her.
Now that is a maid.
