Hey, You, Become an Official Hunter (2) - Chapter 8: The Price of Precision
Anyway, in this situation, the most serious problem by far is accuracy correction. After a moment of contemplation, I decide I need a way to solve it and start gathering info on that first.
And obviously, I'm not some special forces guy lugging around an assault rifle decked out with dot sights and all that crap...
Clank.
"...No matter how I look at it, slapping that on this thing and walking around feels totally insane."
Above all, the machine gun or 20mm autocannon I'm pulling out right now don't even have space for that stuff. And since I'm not shouldering them but firing straight from my hand or torso, I couldn't even see the sight if I attached one.
After agonizing over it, I absentmindedly close the gun accessory site I'd been browsing and fire up the hunter community to ask if there's any items or gear related to accuracy.
But logically speaking, something that purely boosts accuracy to turn even a total noob into a deadeye marksman...
The reactions from the hunter community's long-term residents—who've become ghosts in a different sense from regular folks—are something else. Seeing that, I think oh yeah? and check out the auction sites like they suggested...
Search: Accuracy Boost
"Sigh... this is rough."
Not only do I have to burn over 3 million won for a measly 1% boost, but that set giving 3% if fully equipped costs 430k per piece—basically 4.35 million total. Seeing prices like this for just 1-3%, I start wondering if this is all legit.
And here's the key thing: that "accuracy" stat is obviously relative...
Just to check, I head back to the community and ask. The hunterlings say:
Since it's relative to each person's skill, that 1-3% isn't flat—it's scaled. Soon enough, I realize not just 1-3%, but even a 100% accuracy artifact would only roughly double my effective hit rate.
The problem is, unlike archers who charge mana per shot, I'm a gunner spraying smaller, faster bullets. Even doubled, not many will actually hit enemies. It's no real fix—just a band-aid for my current mess—and I feel a melancholic funk settling in.
But what if I aim for multipliers instead of percentages?
Search: Accuracy Boost, no %, multipliers
"Price inflation's gone wild, and perfect hit stuff is straight-up in trillions."
Not asking questions, a 3x boost demands 16 billion won. Perfect hit items are rare to begin with, and from there it's corporate or national-level insane prices.
At this point, I close the browser, pinch the bridge of my nose, and try to calm my rattled mind.
Once I've somewhat pulled myself together.
Truth is, I have no means to deal with any of this right now. Sure, I saved a bit from part-time gigs before awakening, but with living expenses, rent, and misc., I can't blow it lightly.
So I tearfully close the exchange window, thinking guess I gotta grit my teeth and climb like this. I shut down the community too, ready to head back to the Tower for some bare-knuckle grinding...
Right then.
"Oh?"
FlameMage, who's been subtly advising me, drops this gem. But as the anon comments show, us normies had no clue.
I reply to FlameMage's post for more details, and they say:
"Ooooh?"
They're laying out exactly what I need, step by step. Of course, like me and the anons showed, normies and low-rank hunters don't know this for a reason.
Which is...
"Hm."
Loans require rank or connections. I feel my mood sink, wondering if I can even pull this off.
