Wings for the Angel
At the tail end of the big server event, Moddeok’s character came into view. A truly demure woman. A wingless angel. I desperately wanted to give her wings. She would probably say, “You put them on for me.” Fine. I’ll do it. I’ll pluck them out and hand them over. I’ll make sure I pluck them out for you.
I opened Notion and checked the decoration items. Angel wings existed, but they were tiny. Just in case, I asked, “Anyone got big angel wings? Is there a cuckoo by chance?”
“You guys don’t know? Hmm. I wish there were big wings. Not the small ones—proper big wings. This big.” Even though my drawing skills had deteriorated a lot, they hadn’t completely vanished. I opened the drawing program and sketched a stick figure with huge wings using the mouse. “Wings like this. It’d be nice if they had that sparkling effect like a Christmas tree… Is there a programmer here? Can this be implemented?”
“Ah, never mind. I got it.” I shouldn’t have asked. I’m an idiot too. I always choose the hard way when an easy path is right there. I started spamming the admin call button. I should’ve just asked the admins directly. The true rulers of this game are the admins. If you don’t know something, ask the admins. They said it was fine. This isn’t being a nuisance.
An admin descended from the sky. Huh? It’s Bana-nim!! It’s been a while. Other admins usually show up, but Bana-nim is even better. She’s a close friend of Maru-nim, right? Anyway, it’ll be easier to give feedback. “Hello, Bana-nim!!” “Hello~ What did you call me for?” “I have a suggestion. Very wholesome feedback.” “Oh. Hi, Bana-unni.” “Hai~” “What brings you here?” “Ah, I got an admin call.” “That’s right. I called you.” I said it proudly. Constructive feedback is extremely important. It’s a necessary step for growth. I get plenty of feedback from my viewers too. Not all feedback is good, of course. You have to filter it yourself. There’s nothing more pointless than forcing something that won’t work. Still, you have to receive feedback. That’s how you learn. “I called you to give feedback. Feedback is really important. Do you have pure-white wings among the cloaks?” “Is that the feedback?” “Yes. There’s an angel living in our cathedral… but she has no wings, so she can’t fly up to the sky. It’s quite sad, isn’t it?” “Oho. Who is it?” I didn’t answer. I think everyone felt the warm aura. I slowly walked toward the gentle light. “Ah. So Moddeok became an angel.” “You felt it.” “Yes. I felt it.” “So we need wings. Do you have any?” “Wings… There should be some in the decorations.” “No… not those tiny ones. I mean really big wings. Wings so big that anyone can tell they’re there. Can you give us something like that? Ah… I’ll give you this.” I scattered my Crusader weapons. If it meant turning Moddeok into an angel, I’d give everything away. “Please… I’ll beg on my knees. Make our Moddeok an angel. I’ll give you everything. It’s my entire fortune.” I dumped every item and coin I owned at Bana-nim’s feet. She didn’t refuse and absorbed them all. “You took everything, so please make her an angel.” “Understood. I’ve received your offering well. I’ll return just this one thing.” Bana-nim gave back only the Crusader weapons. “This was earned through effort, so I feel bad taking it. Anyway, since I accepted everything else, I’ll do it for you. Just a moment. Normally I wouldn’t, but there’s only a week left, so I’ll do it as a special event.” “I don’t know what it is, but thank you.” What on earth is she doing? The sound of typing filled the air. I was dying of curiosity. It was answered quickly. “Moddeok, try chatting. I’ve set it up.” “…” “Hurry. We don’t have time.”
“Ooh!! That’s it!! Angel-nim. But can you change it to MyAngel? Or MyAngel… I like that better. She should be everyone’s angel.” “Oh, is that so? Then I understand. Try again.”
“Perfect!! As expected of my angel.” “Why an angel? Is there a reason?” “Because she’s an angel. She was born an angel from the very beginning. No one knows the reason.” “Oh! Yep. I’m off then.” “Thank you. Goodbye!! I’ll give more feedback later.” I was truly grateful to Bana-nim. Grateful that she helped everyone learn an important fact. Good thing she wasn’t the stubborn type. “Thank you so much, Bana-nim.” “Yep~ Call me again if you need anything.” Bana-nim vanished in an instant. Now only Moddeok and I remained. Well then. Time to get back to work. Even if Moddeok is an angel, she’s Maru Church’s angel. As guild master and pope granted authority by Maru-nim, I have a duty to know the guild’s situation. “Angel-nim. Please explain the current situation.”
Moddeok’s face flushed red. Looking at the chat was embarrassing. Even she couldn’t handle the sheer volume of cheesy comments flooding in. Once you start spamming affectionate chat, you run out of things to say.
“Angel-nim. What should I do?” “We’re preparing for war right now.” “Th-that… is it the holy warrior war? That holy cross war?” “You mean the Crusades?” “Exactly. Like occupying Jerusalem in the Crusades.” Moddeok tilted her head, eyes narrowing. “It’s not ‘Ega,’ it’s Jerusalem, isn’t it? Seon-a-nim, you always get things a little twisted. Anyway. We’re going to have a war like in Rust. How do I put it… It’s like a capture point in Ops, but having lots of items is good.” “Aha…!! Then what do I do?” “Just play.” A long silence followed. Seon-a had played so much that she actually wanted to work. She wanted to be useful to the guild. “I’m going to be someone who helps the guild.” “Playing is helping.” Moddeok said it firmly. It was obvious Seon-a wouldn’t be helpful. Letting her roam free was better for the guild than letting her cause trouble. Moddeok didn’t believe Seon-a would actually work hard. It was the same during construction labor. She’d die somewhere, disappear when told to dig, go play with turtles instead, or go hunting for shipwrecks when they needed sand. No one could match Seon-a’s freedom. She’d always come back saying, “I went and did some labor!” and return with thirty or forty sand when others brought twenty or thirty sets. The numbers were ridiculous, but what really baffled Moddeok was Seon-a’s proud, satisfied tone. “No. I’ll really work hard. Harder than anyone. Please believe me just once. What should I do?” “Really?” “Yes. This time I’ll definitely pick up a shovel.”
“Umm… really? You mean it?” “Yes. Should I grab a pickaxe? A shovel? What should I use?” “A shovel. We need a lot of sand.” “What are you making with sand?” “We can combine it to make bombs.” “Oho. Got it. I’ll dig up some sand. With my shovel…” Seon-a pulled out an unenchanted diamond shovel. Moddeok sighed the moment she saw it. After sighing, she changed her mindset. ‘At least it’s not iron.’ A diamond shovel was fine. “Seon-a-nim… good job. Yes. But you won’t need that. Throw it away. I’ll give you one. Just take it.” “This? It’s a diamond shovel. Durability’s full too.” “Use this. You’re really going to do it, right? You’ll dig a lot?” “Of course!! Trust me.” Moddeok handed Seon-a the worst of the three shovels. She didn’t have high expectations. “Follow me, Seon-a-nim. We have a sand quarry. Let’s go there.” “Oho. Sounds good. I’ll dig everything up with this shovel.” Seon-a spoke confidently. She was sure she’d work harder than anyone. There was no basis for it. She just felt confident she’d do well. Her desire to work hard pierced the sky. No reason. Just baseless confidence. “Let’s go!! Trust only me!!” “I can’t trust you no matter how much you say it.” She’d been burned too many times before. The more Seon-a insisted, the less Moddeok could believe her. “Really? Last time you just put water in and made rice-cake soup. You’re not doing that again, are you?” “No. This time… I’ll just show you!! Let’s head to the quarry.” “Hmm… okay.” Moddeok answered reluctantly. “Let’s go. Lead the way. Ah, never mind. I’ll go first.” “Do you know where it is?” “If I don’t, I’ll just make a path.” “Just follow me properly.” “Yes!!” “You answer well, at least.” “Thank you!!” Moddeok’s lips twitched as she guided Seon-a. Even while walking, Seon-a kept declaring her ambitions. “I’m really going to work hard, so please believe me. I mean it. I’ll really try hard. Today I’ll try not to log off until I’ve dug a hundred sets of sand. Yes. Trust only me. Mwahahaha. You trust me, right? You’ll trust me, won’t you? You have to. I’m the pope. Believe in me, yap!!”
